The other week headlines were crying out that Twitter, the microblogging platform, makes us immoral, but the study on which the claim was made, made no mention of social media. Christie Nicholson reports

The other week saw people climbing the walls of the “twittersphere” with some claiming that Twitter—the brief blogging platform—makes us immoral.

The controversy was a good example of the danger of popculture references when explaining science. You’ve got to make sure it’s accurate in these days of Susan-Boyle-instant-stories.

No, obviously it doesn't. Choosing to be immoral and doing so with twitter has nothing to do with twitter itself. It's like saying guns kill people - no, people kill people. They just happen to have a good tool to do it with in guns.

no, and contrary to the position, "there are no stupid questions" this one might well be a stupid question

you may display your immorality on twitter but it does not make immorality. Like guns, cars and any other tool it is the person that makes it good or bad.

No. Immoral people use twitter.

I have no interest in the banality of your existence within a 164 character limit. Come to think of it, if you can describe your life in 164 characters or less, you live a sad, dull life. Go shoot yourself and quit wasting bandwidth.
