Sometimes i react strongly to what i percieve as an injustice. Is that wrong? | Reacting isn't wrong, the nature of your reaction is wrong. Particularly because it involves your perception of things. Your perception, which I presume you allow to be shaded by "conservative" partisan hack loudmouths. Quote: |
I didn't really state who was "up her ass" recently correctly. The media, prior to her resignation, wasn't so much i guess, except when she got pulled back into the national spotlight by people like letterman.
| So now this resignation thing is Letterman's fault. So Letterman (a stand up comedian) was up her ass, not the national media? Quote: |
My thing is, i don't think she deserves all the hate and bile. I think she's a good person. I think she'd make a good leader because she understands the important things well. I don't think she quit because of her poll numbers... i accept her explanation that she was caught in a game of politics where people were bringing lawsuit after lawsuit against her, and it made her into a "lame duck" type of governor... one who couldn't do anything not because of re-election inability, but because of being bogged down in court over pointless politically motivated lawsuits.
| The lawsuits aren't the reasons her poll numbers were dropping. Quote: |
As far as "our guys" and "your guys" - i'll tell you... i HATE that. I don't think we SHOULD think in terms of us versus them when speaking of our own countrymen.
| You hate that? Again, I presume you listen to all the vapid conservative media out there. You like to cite the Huffington Post, Air America etc. as examples of the liberal hate machine without acknowledging the noise put out by the conservative hate machine. Do you tune out or tune into that noise? Where is your scorn and contempt for those on "your" side of the fence using the same tactics. Do you tune in? The only thing I know about the "liberal media" sources that you so abhor is that you mention them a lot. Quote: |
I mean, there are people out there using bad science to influence policy... intentionally lying in reports to justify political positions. That makes all such scientific conclusions questionable. | That's not the world I live in. Of all of the bad things influencing policy, science has to be the least of it. We just got over 8 years of bad policy influencing science! |

Disley - your commentary is simply astonishing. You're saying she has no right to defend herself or her DAUGHTER from being attacked viciously be leftwing comedians... she should just take it so it goes away, and let the continuing damage be done. Then let her kid deal with the consequences when other kids take the letterman "joke" (attack) to the next level, because it was never defended against in the first place. Then your quip about "what was she even doing attending that game" - i know BO is taking our freedoms away at a rapid rate... but i'm pretty sure we conservatives don't have to wear armbands for identification and stay out of public places. Not YET anyway. Your argument is just absurd!

Do you see that there are other valid points of view than your own? That the world is a complex place, and the democrats or liberals regularly don't get it right? There is plenty of room for disagreement. I wouldn't have to listen to "conservative partisan hack loudmouths" (as you put it) if the media would do its job of reporting correctly in the first place. Problem is, they've got a dog in the race. They've become an ideological 5th column - and they won't report honestly. So i HAVE to go to other places to get the story they won't talk about. Quote: |

| The national media jumps up her ass whenever it thinks it can do so justifiably. Letterman, Maher, and the rest of the liberal establishment continued to be up her ass for no good reason. They never should have been there in the first place, but at the very least, they should have stopped when the election was over. Quote: |

| Take a breath. She didn't quit because of the poll numbers. She couldn't do her JOB because of the lawsuits she had to defend against. Understand the difference? She left so that hopefully there would be no further reason for the lawsuits, and the people of Alaska could be served well with a government that wasn't forced to continually prepare defenses for baseless accusations. | Don't get too lofty, there... you've got some issues with partisan hackery yourself... but perhaps you just don't recognize it. I listen to Rush because he's entertaining, and he brings up valid counterpoints to the monopoly on the story that the liberal establishment otherwise has. I occasionally watch O'Reilly... but not that much anymore, and same with Hannity. I like Mark Steyn, but only listen to him when he fills in for rush. I go to the drudge report, which was actually in a study determined to be left leaning based on the content it links to.
I listen to Rush, and he's certainly no partisan for the republicans. He'll say good riddance to non-conservatives all day long, and appreciate conservative democrats. NPR isn't quite balanced. I used to listen to it on the way to work and on the way home, and almost every day they'd report on something, or have a guest on, and based on the things i had listened to from Rush, or read online from links to major news sources, the NPR hosts regularly failed to present the REAL counterargument.
I like Newt Gingrich, i like Charles Krauthammer, i occasionally see Ann Coulter as a guest, and think her points are right on, and think she's rather funny most of the time. David Horowitz is very thoughtful and an excellent debater. He doesn't wallow in personal attacks... it's always about the message.
There's a difference between the people i listen to and the people i cite that you mentioned. The people i listen too aren't filled with seething hatred. Ann Coulter simply uses wit and sarcasm to point out absurdities with the way liberals debate. She has extremely good points, and occasionally takes them too far. But her points are never addressed by the liberals, it's just : Ann Coulter: ignore. Same with Rush... they take him out of context on an almost daily basis, and it can ONLY be absolutely intentional, so they can point to him and say: this is how republicans are... this is how conservatives are. Then they pass the partial quote on to their press outlets and it gets reported as truth.
In short, i don't really know anybody on the conservative side that does the things i despise about the left. They don't have the seething hatred. I know, because i listen to more than a short clip taken out of context for the purposes of demonizing. And you know what, Rush PLAYS a larger part of things he goes on about. He'll say - go look at the whole transcript - go watch the whole clip - this IS the context, and what whoever is saying is wrong!
So i don't lash out at what i don't know exists. In addition, i can't recommed unilateral disarmament. Disarmament must be bilateral, and take place after the ground obtained with such tactics has been returned, and reparations have been made, and there is plausible reason to believe that the tactics won't be taken up again. I'm not going to recommend that we just sit here and take it, while the liberal attack machine gets away with anything it wants to. That's absurd. Maybe Michael Savage is the kind of person you're talking about, but i never listen to him, so i dont' know. Quote: |
That's not the world I live in. Of all of the bad things influencing policy, science has to be the least of it. We just got over 8 years of bad policy influencing science!
| You aren't listening again. I'm saying JUNK science. "Science" being made up to support policy rather than the other way around. I love TRUE science. I despise POLITICIZED science because it isn't true science.
And i don't know what your justification is for claiming we've had 8 years of bad policy influencing science. |

I call the question. If you agree with me, Pexster, Gomer, et al., on this issue, say 'aye'. If you agree with cyphen, say 'nay.'

uhhh... right... what audacity gives YOU the positive response! And why do YOU get represented with multiple people? Does your et al. include disley, who is treating Palin as a Jew in Germany who doesn't have the right to attend a baseball game?
It's a moot point anyway... i'd stand against the entire world if i thought the entire world was wrong.
And there have been so many varied posts in here, what's the question?
Is it valid for Palin to resign?
Is Palin an idiot?
Does Palin deserve to be attacked?
Does Palin deserve to have to pay large sums to defend against frivolous and unfounded lawsuits?
Are the liberal hate machine entities worse than their republican counterparts?
Is science being subverted in order to prop up political agenda?
Should Sarah Palin just ignore disgusting attacks on her family?
Should republicans not counter liberal hate tactics in any way? |

Is it valid for Palin to resign? Yes, she can do what she wants
Is Palin an idiot? Yes
Does Palin deserve to be attacked? When the shoe fits
Does Palin deserve to have to pay large sums to defend against frivolous and unfounded lawsuits? Until they are adjudicated, they're nether frivolous nor unfounded
Are the liberal hate machine entities worse than their republican counterparts? No
Is science being subverted in order to prop up political agenda? Not since Bush left
Should Sarah Palin just ignore disgusting attacks on her family? see link
Should republicans not counter liberal hate tactics in any way? 'when did you stop beating your wife,' question | oye vey.
Ok, if you agree with me, Pexster, Gomer, et al., on this issue, say 'MTA'. If you agree with cyphen, say 'cyphen.' |

This thread still active??? MTA
I don't normally like Peggy Noonan's work too much, but the piece Theo quoted is outstanding. It really sums up the whole thing nicely.
