Are you Seeing 95W Incandescent Light Bulbs in Your Stores?
We have them here.
Why? California outlawed the 100W bulbs...
I love it!Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

You all know incandescent bulbs will be gone soon, right?
Good job, friend-of-friends!

I was looking at lightbulbs the other day but can't remember what varieties the incandescent bulbs came in.
.. But why in the hell would I want to buy a bulb that uses 5 times as much energy?

Because the florescents are extremely toxic?
I have several lights on motion sensors & dimmers. And a garage door opener that won't work on flourscent's due to the vibration.

I have a problem with some of the florescent bulbs. They seem to have a faint strobe effect to them that strains my eyes. It's hard to explain.
You people are you satisfied with this kind of world? I'm not.

Like most florescents they "flicker" at 60 Hz, creating interference with your monitor, and 60 hz is usually the default refresh rate for most monitors. If you set your refresh rate to 72 Hz or whatever, just not 60, your flickering will go away.

A little off topic. When B.C. Hydro had their little give-a-way of the florescent light bulbs the speal was to use them in high traffic areas where the light will be left on most of the day. The reason was it took 5 times the energy to start up a florescent bulb compared to incandescent. So areas where you only need light for a couple of minutes and then switch off is the place for a florescent bulb.
Since then I've been telling friends to put low wattage incandescent in bedrooms and ceiling fan lights as these aren't normally left on for long periods of time. Use accent lights in bedrooms that don't require lots of light to use the room.
Are the curly florecent bulbs still using 5 times the amount of energy to start up?When those who believe in any of the available gods understand why they deny all other gods, they should come to understand why atheists lack a belief in theirs.

sorry but I believe that has been somewhat disproven. although you are correct that they take more energy to start. it is an impulse over in a fraction of a second. I think it was mythbusters that said it took about 23 seconds of operation for equivalent light to make up the wasted power. after that it is all profit...
-
January 16th, 2011, 12:21 PM #12I researched this a few weeks ago. The new bulds use the equivalent of 13 seconds of additional energy to start up. (13 seconds of energy equal to regular running energy)Are the curly florecent bulbs still using 5 times the amount of energy to start up?Imagine a world where dogs took bad owners to the pound...

January 16th, 2011, 04:05 PM #14Thanks, love you too. And since your topic is lighting sources, bringing up alternatives to incandescent and fluorescent falls squarely in the discussion. It's interesting to see that anything which doesn't further your exacting agenda causes you to fly off the handle.Actually, I was referring to your socially challenged sidekick, Tony the Phallic Light Saber...
That's possible, yes. And cocaine is illegal. Doesn't mean that the ignorant and the insane won't still try to acquire it. The point is, the overwhelming majority of people will move on to drastically more efficient lighting sources, which will cut electricity usage and save everyone some money. The heater-in-a-light-bulb-socket industry is about to explode, though.Good job, friend-of-friends!

Every light in my house is currently fluorescent . . . Thinking and looking to start upgrading to LED.

With all my crunchers, heating isn't a problem. However, my electric bill is still outrageous.

I've got mostly florescent, but bedroom are incandescent due to color shifts of florescent bulbs.
The real energy users are my pool equipment, dryer, electric heat, pellet stove, TV, and computer.
If I used flourscent outside on motion detectors, they don't last more than a few months.
And Tony, you just insert yourself into my threads and have nothing to add. It's like the kid that is always "popping off" in a classroom.
"You all know incandescent bulbs will be gone soon, right?"
"LED and halogen then?"

If you have an issue with me, then put me on your ignore list. You are on mine but I check, hoping you have found something useful to add... no problem. With mine, 560 Ti's in SLI, I don't get much GPU usage with internet, they'll heat up to maybe 40-45C, 50 if the room is warm, with GPU acceleration in the browser. otherwise mine...
SLI problem? :(
