Okay, she has come into riches as a result of the sideshow she offers. She is abandoning the old neighborhood where, now that she has been exposed, she is no longer respected or accepted. And, hey, it's cold up there. This is the travesty of the 24-hour news cycle. It doesn't matter how insubstantial you are, if you feed the news beast with controversy or the absurd, you will always have a place at the table. No matter how insubstantial you are, you need only to be sensational to ensure yourself a place at the table. As with Newt Gingrich, Palin's potential presidency is just another way to feed the need for headlines and guarantee that she makes more money from speaking fees. If the media were to deprive Gingrich, Palin and their like of the promotional oxygen they crave, these video "yule logs" would simply go away.

I would love to see Palin run. One of the problems with her is that she never had to face the scrutiny from members of her own party on a national level. When she ran as a vice presidential candidate she was already past the primary elections so therefore never was seriously questioned or debated by members of her own party. If she runs she will have to face her peers in debate and that would be very interesting to watch.
