To put some things in perspective, I know some "Good Ole Boys" who would never watch Maher.
Had they seen the message of prejudice and mocking, would take Maher apart like a mechanically separated Chicken. (No Gun Needed)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iE9TN...eature=related

that guy who says republican ideals could work it hasn't worked yet but it may still work.
70+ years of social engineering and mississippi still has poverty? NYC still has rampant poverty with sections of northern manhattan looking like a war zone.
I can see the same video being made of a liberal saying democrats platform may not have worked yet but it could work.

Mississippi is the least educated state in the nation. That is why it is a conservative strong hold.
When those who believe in any of the available gods understand why they deny all other gods, they should come to understand why atheists lack a belief in theirs.

The point of the video wasn't to laugh at the guy missing his teeth. To me that was simply a sad statement about the availability of basic dental care in poorer regions, which is abysmal, by the way, but I think that the larger point, as Maher mentions is that these folks are falling hook, line and sinker for the false Republican vision that "one day" things will be better for these people... When it's certainly not Republicans who would ever make it so.
Where are you talking about? Give us a Street View tour!

This video is instructive. Mississippi is one of the poorest states in the nation. The USA is going broke, too. As we slide down the cliff, you need to wonder...Will the USA become one big Mississippi?
"What makes those people so different from you and I?"
Location, education, and opportunity.

Why is location a factor Chuck?

What we have is the liberal elite making fun of poor white people in the "Bible belt".
Can you imagine this person (Bill Maher's daughter) going down into Detroit in the ghetto and making fun of poor blacks? Or the barrio in LA?
If she made it out alive, she'd be pilloried by the media for making fun of poor black people or luckless Hispanics.
The liberal elite thinks this stuff is funny. Obviously, funny enough to run on HBO. Where is the outrage from the liberals?
From 1876 to 1992, Mississippi has been run by democrats. From 2000 it had a democrat, and since then has been republican governors.Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

wow I have to say Harlem has really cleaned up in the last 15 to 20 years. It does not look anything like I remember.
My last view of Harlem was one of total war zone. They do not seem to provide a map of war zones that I can find but the areas on broadway that i remember sucking are not horrible any more.
East harlem seems to have cleaned up quite nicely as well.
I got lost up there in the early 90's and it was a horror show. The subways were still nasty in the 80's and 90's. Looks like the horror show is not quite as scary any longer.
Images i remember is 10 or 15 blocks of cars with out tires burned at the side of the road, burned out brownstones and stores with bars designed to keep king kong out. all along the road was tagged with gang graffiti.Last edited by Epidemic; March 14th, 2012 at 09:53 AM.

March 14th, 2012, 09:40 AM #16I don't believe the point was to poke fun at anyone. It merely showed the views of a sliver of the populous and left it open to interpretation. One could take it either way. I found it commendable that one of the interviewee's stated he would rather die broke then compromise his moral value system. Other things said were less commendable. One was downright horrendous. What we have is the liberal elite making fun of poor white people in the "Bible belt".
I'd enjoy that. The more viewpoints shown, the better sense we get of each other. Can you imagine this person (Bill Maher's daughter) going down into Detroit in the ghetto and making fun of poor blacks? Or the barrio in LA?
Damn those liberals and their public sanitation and welfare programs!wow I have to say Harlem has really cleaned up in the last 15 to 20 years. It does not look anything like I remember.
Good job, friend-of-friends!

Well I would attribute the turn around to tougher crime control and prevention, eminent domain allowing valueable property re-enter the real estate market from.
Because the welfare was there for generations and the area was for shit.
I did see improvement after mayor Dinkins left office. Guliani kicked ass and took names in his first couple of years in office.
I first felt the improvement in the removal of the window cleaners on the west side highway. But I had no Idea how far NYC had improved at least in manhattan.Last edited by Epidemic; March 14th, 2012 at 10:10 AM.
