Lets use Gas Station cameras to find criminals.

Under a pending proposal, the license-plate cameras at UK filling stations will soon begin to trigger automatic lookups of every motorist's insurance and tax records. Drivers whose insurance and tax records can't be located or verified will not be allowed to fill their tanks. This requires that the existing cameras, which are there to document drivers who don't pay for their gas, be connected to sensitive government databases filled with identifying personal information.

Not only will we find them we can catch them quickly because they cant get gas for their cars!

It's an OK idea in theory.

But some petrol retailers said the proposals were a “step too far” - claiming they put cashiers at risk.

Brian Madderson, from RMI Petrol, which represents independent petrol stations, said: “Staff are already getting stick from motorists for high fuel prices.

“This proposal will increase the potential for conflict. Our cashiers are not law enforcers."

AND, just how accurate are records in the database? Do they get updated within minutes of a person getting a new car?

I'm with Steve. One glitch or server error and you end up pushing your car home. Unacceptable.

Issue everyone a valid gas card that gets approved like credit? Then again, the system goes down and they don't accept cash anymore. To consolidate records in the states that would require a link to the DMV nationally. Including suspended licenses, infraction and criminal violations, etc.
