The Futility of Chicago's Gun Turn-ins
The Futility of Chicago's Gun Turn-Ins - Reason.com
Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck noted in a 1996 book that when St. Louis did a gun buyback, those participating "were commonly middle-aged and 80 percent white, while those involved in gun violence in that city were mostly young and black."
Criminals will have trouble finding any appeal in this offer. In the first place, their weapons may have cost far more than $100, as handguns and long guns of good quality usually do.
In the second place, thugs practice a trade in which a weapon is essential for doing business. A pistol used in the course of armed robberies will pay for itself many times over. A $100 gift card won't.
The experience elsewhere offers little hope that the program will make a noticeable difference. After a successful 1974 buyback in Baltimore, the firearm homicide rate jumped by 50 percent. A study of a Seattle effort found it "failed to reduce significantly the frequency of firearms injuries, deaths or crimes."
This is the pattern wherever turn-ins take place. A 2004 study by the National Academy of Sciences concluded that "the theory underlying gun buybacks is badly flawed and the empirical evidence demonstrates the ineffectiveness of these programs."

The buyback is a nice idea.... I have 8 firearms in my house...two of which are an AK47 and a scoped SKS... If my house got robbed, there would be more arms in the hands of the bad guys.“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

At least 100 city cops to help secure high profile wedding - Chicago Sun-Times
This high profile wedding is for Laura Jarrett, daughter of Valarie Jarrett. Another waste of taxpayer money in Chicago.
The streets of Chicago are officially more dangerous than a war zone: Homicide victims in the Windy City outnumber U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan this year.
While 144 Americans have died in Afghanistan in 2012, a whopping 228 Chicago residents have been killed, and the murder rate is up a staggering 35 percent from last year. That’s a rash of homicides quadruple the rate of New York City’s, and police and crime experts fear it may only get worse.
Through May 13 this year there have been 185 homicides in the city, according to the latest police figures, up from 116 during the comparable period last year. Chicago's murder rate has outpaced New York City, which has more than twice the population.
The gun ban is working real good.

In some cities in California, they offer $100 gift cards to local grocery stores, so it's no longer just cash.
They found middle school kids buying handguns for $35 on the street, and one of the guns seized already had a couple bodies on it.

The gun didn't have bodies, the previous shooters did.
