Immigration: Obama catches Romney on the wrong side of the border

    Obama deportation policy - baltimoresun.com

But it may be that the real reason the Romney campaign and Republican congressional leaders are bugged by President Obama's switcheroo on immigration enforcement is that it is an ingenious political move for which they lack a coherent response.

According to new polls, the new policy is quite popular with most voters -- independent voters in particular. The one segment of the electorate that hates it is the Republican base. This leaves Mr. Romney and company in a quandary. If they flat out condemn the president's action they will please the majority of their party, but they will further alienate Hispanic voters who are already turned off by the hard line, anti-immigration rhetoric Mr. Romney employed to get himself to the right of his conservative opponents in the GOP primaries. An attack on the policy could also hurt Mr. Romney's appeal to the independents whose votes he absolutely needs to win if he hopes to be president.

I just LOVE this phrase....." a coherent response "

    Really ????

The whole report is funny . . .

I'm seeing a lot of low profile reports of "legal" Hispanic's that feel betrayed and insulted by Obama's move.

Oh well, sheep will be sheep . . . whether they are red or blue.

I'm not so sure the legal Hispanics want more downward pressure on their wages and benefits.

That is one of the benefits of (legal) Mexican labor. They really don't spend a lot of time bitching. They want a fair wage for a day's work, and to be left the hell alone.

    We'll see.

What is the point of a border. Why not bring in boatloads of Vietnamese and Cambodian nationals to compete in factories with China?

The problem with the democrats, is they only listen to themselves and tune everyone else out.

I am a fan of amnesty right after a good solid imigration initiative is started. Register in the next 3 months and if you meet the criteria (I don't know the criteria yet but...) you may stay. After the 3 months has elapsed then we begin sweeping business and public services like schools. No benefits will be offered to illegals in any form. No quarter will be given to businesses who knowingly employ illegals. If business needs imigrant workers then they can go to the government and ask for guest worker quota's to be increased.

This will remove some of the draw america has for illegals but it gives a break to business and people who came here knowing full well we did not enforce the laws.

I contend people here were invited in a sense. If you do not make any serious attempt to enforce your laws then those laws do not exist. As such the illegals here are here at our invitation. Amnesty and then crackdown.

The same goes for business. You can not expect businesses to not hire illegals if their competitors are allowed to hire them with not repercussions. As such to do business in some industries you are forced to hire illegals due to inaction of government.

Amnesty keeps business from being shook up and allows them to make adjustments over the longer time that it takes of attrition to reduce their workforce.

You have to understand the motives behind immigration and amnesty.

The republicans are short sighted on the issue. The republicans want cheap, docile labor who works and doesn't bitch and have the baggage so many "native" employees have. It's rare to have a Hispanic just tell you to "F-off" and walk off the job. With "native" employees, it happens too much.

The democrats take the longer view. They are interested in changing the countries demographic to keep themselves in power. The democrats rely on an electorate that needs them, and isn't all that hot on "self determination". Immigrants, for the most part - especially Mexico and segments of certain Asian nations - aren't all that hung up on being upwardly mobile. They come from impoverished backgrounds, and they want a safe secure job with medical, dental, vision, retirement, and $ 20.00 and hour putting screws into sheet metal with a Makita. But they will take what they can get.

You have to have experience with low/semi skilled workforces to understand what I mean.

BTW, most illegal Mexican labor is employed by Mexican run companies... "They understand..." if you get my drift.

It would be rare to find illegal Mexicans working for a "white" construction company unless they have forged documents.
