According to the article, " Those strikes have killed at least 1,488 people, at least 1,343 of them considered militants, the foundation estimates based on news reports and other sources." Which means 145 were not considered militants.

For argument's sake, lets say that Canada had a terrorist problem and to address it decided to fly unmanned drones over the U.S. and kill people they suspected to be terrorists. Would you be ok with that? Would you be ok with it considering that other U.S. citizens would also get killed by accident?

That really is the issue. The U.S. flies drones over Pakistan and Yemen and kills people suspected of terrorism, without them being convicted of any crime. Moreover, there are many times bystanders get killed too.

And since anyone found in close proximity to a militant is presumed to be another militant, that kinda inflates the number of militants.

I don't know if I can completely fault Carter in this. attacking countries in sovereign territory killing civilians does sorta cross the line a bit. We are banking on the fact that we being the biggest buck in the meadow that we can push people around with impunity.

I know for a fact when you blow up people you give fodder to the enemy to swell their ranks. But it is also a fact that Osama felt concerened about the attacks reducing his effectiveness.

If I as a country refuse to stop my citizens from attacking your country then that is an act of war. You should really try to play nice with other countries and this can be avoided as well.

I just think that when you add up the costs of all these attack and the war on terror the cost is greater than could have ever been inflicted by the terrorists.

Before we go to war on terror we should probably wait until it reaches larger proportions than the low boil that terrorism is at.

Perhaps I would like to set a threshold of 12,000 people per year for 2 or 3 consecutive years. When terrorists start inflicting that kind of damage then we can blow up other countries.

Man, some of your posts especially as of late have screamed out with a lack of intelligence and tact yet some how have boat loads of ignorance, but this really takes the cake. How can you take this and negate civillian lives like pawns on a chess board? There isn't some magic number of deaths that should ever be set as a limit. Just as we don't treat a hostage situation in that manner.

    Mind = blown.

I just realized . . . for years, Carter was considered the "Worst President ever". Then came along Bush JR . . .

Are they going to have company soon???

Most of the "Worst" are one termers . . . then came Bush JR . . . Can he honestly fit in the group, if the people elected him twice?

Epi . . . for "Worst ever" candidate!

In many cases the 'Bad' guys just cop a squat in the hooch of 'civies' / I can't fault the US for going after them, just the manner in which it's done. Carter is correct when he states that this just inflames and justifies our enemies anger.

    reality check there Mr. Camo.

3000 civillians died in terrorist attacks, the response has killed hundreds of thousands of innocents and cost us 50,000 injured soldiers 4,900 dead solidiers. It seems as if your just willing to use the military and civillians in other lands as your pawns you ignorant bastard

Bolded to prove my lack of tact statement

Perhaps we should both back up for a moment, and of course pull the name calling out of it.

That said, I'm curious where the 'hundreds of thousands' for innocent deaths number is coming from?

And second, you are misinterpreting me. I am not war mongering, I never even agreed with the war in the first place. However, what I took offense to, especially knowing many people who lost loved ones on 9/11 as I was living in NY at the time, was the fact that you could put such a blanket number on the deaths of people as if the first 11k people didn't matter PER YEAR, but suddenly we hit 12k and all of the sudden there's a problem.

I'm not a full force military invasion of countries kind of guy when it comes to fighting an enemy that doesn't have a nation to claim itself to. I'd rather handle it more quietly, without the public eye if you catch my point.

So before we continue to go on bashing each other here, perhaps it would be wise to realize we are probably both misreading each other on the topic.

No, I think you two should duel.

To be fair, I don't think you read it wrong at all, Solo. Epi is notoriously callous when it comes to these things. But, unfortunately, it's probably the closest to the way that the government looks at these things as well. Our citizens aren't names and faces, they are numbers. They treat the military the same way.

There are always civilian casualties in war. You think everyone the bombs killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a combatant? And it's more than okay to be outraged by the killing of civilians, on purpose or on accident. War is a gruesome business, even when it's not an actual war (Vietnam, et al). It would be great if we could prevent these things, but I don't have any idea how to.
