Not Racial Profiling
The New York TimesLast year, city police officers stopped nearly 686,000 people, 84 percent of them black or Latino. The vast majority — 88 percent of the stops — led to neither an arrest nor a summons, although officers said they had enough reasonable suspicion to conduct a frisk in roughly half of the total stops, according to statistics provided by the New York Police Department and the Center for Constitutional Rights.
Definitely legit and not profiling. NY'ers obviously live in a free city and not a police state. We should expand this sort of activity to the rest of the country.Good job, friend-of-friends!

Definitely a frightening trend there.
Sort of like how blacks and Latinos are more likely to get arrested in NYC for simple marijuana possession.
From what I've learned just speaking with some of my friends that complain about 'profiling', is that some blacks and a few of of my Mexican friends tend to get themselves profiled.
For example, I was with a friend when he drove by an OPD (Oakland PD) cruiser last summer, and he started to fidget while staring at the cop. He didn't have anything to hide, but it sure as hell looked mighty suspicious. It was even more amusing when I tried to explain to him why that would be considered suspicious behavior to the cop.
I was standing outside of a BART station another time when a few BART officers were drinking coffee sitting at a cafe table. A group of truant kids decided to start flashing gang signs and mouthing off to the cops, even when they were being left alone. Gee, what a surprise as to what happened next: they were all in handcuffs as the schools and their parents were called.

So the fact that the majority of crimes are committed by a minority of people is simply due to racist cops? Got it.

In NYC you can posses a little marijuana...But it can't be "displayed."
Darn cops start frisking people and make them empty their pockets... BOOM, now its in public view and you get arrested...Imagine a world where dogs took bad owners to the pound...

Racist cops in NYC mind you! Only practically one of, if not the most diverse city in this whole country!
I would say otherwise considering I only lived in NY a majority of my life and saw plenty of arrests, but whats the point trying to argue it?
Agreed. However, that's essentially like letting somebody go who has an open 'single shot' drink on them.
I think it's ridiculous either way, and I personally don't agree with the arrest at all (especially considering i'd rather have a bunch of high people roaming around and/or driving than drunks on the road or in public in general).Last edited by SoloCamo; June 27th, 2012 at 02:49 PM.

Cops make bad stops all the time. They get bored, they fuck up, and they don't know the law.

Furthermore, if we didn't profile, there would be a massive mis-allocation of resources. We know who generally commit certain types of crimes, and so that's who we should be looking at more closely. Doesn't mean we should stop them, but the fact that they are being observed more closely may lead to more "false positives". And, no, I'm not just talking about races...but sexes, ages, dress, etc.

That law student is a moron. It looks like he intentionally went out of his way to cause trouble just to be able to record the incident. Of course a cop is going to stop someone carrying a handgun when people in the neighborhood call it in.

So if all of a sudden people get riled up over a shirt that says "F#*@ You!" the cops should investigate? Or if my hair color is offensive? Or if I have too many earrings?

I believe a gun is a bit different than a goof ball with a T-shirt, offensive hair color, or too many piercings.

We're not discussing gun rights here. Let's get back on topic.
Bingo, I asked you a question which you've been avoiding for 14 posts. How about we pick the thread up from there?Good job, friend-of-friends!

Pretty sure I answered it.
Gun rights = civil rights, by the way. A violation is a violation.
