Do you have a link to the "Actual" written law which was passed by Congress and was signed by the President that mandates these tax increases??? Or is this just Republican propaganda ?????
Fox News, you know.........
Edit: As I've previously said... Since I am a recipient of a New life having received my kidney at tax payer expense( along w/ my personal ins. ) I do not mind paying another tax that will provide healthcare to those who ,now, are sick and dying without any recourse but the emergency room, which raises healthcare cost exponentially .
Give a little to some and save a lot in the long run.
Let me know if that doesn't make sense.Last edited by pickel; July 6th, 2012 at 11:02 AM.

Plain English is not available to the "unwashed"...
Sorry Pick... you are just going to have to wait and see. Union plans were exempted until 2018. After that, either your plan reduces itself or you pay taxes on it.
But do your own research:
I'll be paying an additional tax due to my company addition to my Medicare Advantage plan eventually... My tax guy says that as far as he knows, they take the cost of my plan - employer + employee, subtract $ 10,200, and treat the rest as regular income.A 40% tax on "Cadillac Health Care Plans" starting in 2018.Those whose employers pay for all or most of comprehensive healthcare plans (costing $10,200 for an individual or $27,500 for families) will have to pay a 40% tax on the amount their employer pays. The 2018 start date is said to have been a gift to unions, which often have comprehensive plans. (ATR.org)
In 2018 it sounds like the unions will be there too.Last edited by Chuckiechan; July 6th, 2012 at 12:20 PM.

What a silly article. It's ridiculous to conclude a tax on medical devices is going to "hit my wallet" in 2013. To do so, one must assume that:
1. you get sick
2. you go to a doctor who has to use a new piece of equipment subject to the tax.
3. The doctor decided to pass the cost along to you.
4. Your insurance plan decides to pass the cost along to you.
A lot of assumptions being made there. Sounds more like illogic, fear tactics, and sour grapes to me.Good job, friend-of-friends!

the plain english version is in the news stories. The link provided to the health care proposal is the one written in martian.
I agree that the news stories should post the paragraph in the law and then explain in plain english but alas that is not usually the case for either flavor of biased news.

Remember to
remember the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA)?
And tha when it was attacked, Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act --COBRA ?
We may not see a repeal, but we may see some changes as we go along. Perhaps in one lump as per above.
I rember when medical deductions were subject to a 2.5% reduction, then 5% and now 7.5% which make it difficult to claim a substantial medical deduction.
At 10% it it defies the DooGlian logic that one way of helping people with medical expenses is to let them deduct them. The rich were already not deducting them because of a phaseout. This is a tax that falls most harshly on the lower middle-class. Again.
Why discourage people from getting medical care in a putative "healthcare" bill?

There should be no more need for COBRA. COBRA is used to continue a work policy, since Obamacare is a mandate, you'll automatically have medical care already.
