Another California city, another bankruptcy as San Bernardino joins Stockton, Mammoth Lakes - The Washington Post

The councilman who abstained from voting, John Valdivia, said he did not trust the information presented at the meeting, and having only served since March believed he should not be held responsible for the money mess.

“The taxpayers of this city have been duped, hoodwinked and misguided for the past several years,” Valdivia said, according to the Sun.

I know how this BS happens, but come on San Bernardino (county anyways) is one of the more predominant areas in the state. I'm sure it'll turn own everyone on the payroll was making 6+ figures

and the really sad thing is, we as Californians wonder how our state is billions in debt when we have cities /counties {et} with city councils ot oyjer sudo-politcians making almost a million a year and they are leaching the system for more money for their community services!!

The city's fiscal crisis has been years in the making, compounded by the nation's crushing recession and exacerbated by escalating pension costs, lucrative labor agreements, Sacramento's raid on redevelopment funds and a city reserve that is tapped out, officials said.
California routinely keeps money collected on behalf of cities and counties to balance it's own budget. And the cities and counties can't do anything about it.

    It's because of Prop 13!
    It's all Reagan's fault
Regardless, I would rather live in Cali then a Red state
    It's all Arnie's fault

These comments were coming from people listing their residence as CA.
