Third Judge Rules DOMA Unconstitutional
Full text of the decision here.U.S. District Court Judge Vanessa Bryant, a George W. Bush appointee, ruled on Tuesday that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional.
DOMA, Bryant ruled “fails to pass constitutional muster under even the most deferential level of judicial scrutiny.” From the ruling:In sum, having considered the purported rational bases proffered by both BLAG and Congress and concluded that such objectives bear no rational relationship to Section 3 of DOMA as a legislative scheme, the Court finds that no conceivable rational basis exists for the provision. The provision therefore violates the equal protection principles incorporated in the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution. In judging a two-person singing contest, never award the prize to the second soprano having heard only the first.

I had a friend try to explain how gay marriage hurts the institution of marriage... I am no more enlightened than before he tried to explain it.
What are they defending with Defense Of Marriage Act???

Masquerading???
Actually I believe that there is no question that the bible suggests that gayness is to be looked upon as a sin. That does not mean that religious people are obligated to attack or punish gays. But it is most certainly a sin that you should probably try to guide people away from.
But specifically I wonder what relation the sin has to marriage. Marriage will be marriage no matter what gays try to do. I simply can not see what defense marriage needs. Even if you allow people to marry as gay couples your Biblically based marriages will be just as good or bad as the were before gays decided they wanted to do something similar.
So the question remains unanswered... hey Mr. and Mrs. Christian What does Peter and Paul marrying do to your marriage? Are you saying straight people will become gay because gay marriage is opened up? are you suggesting that Peter and Paul will marry opposite people if gay marriage is denied them?
Gays will remain gay even without marriage straights will remain straight even if gays suddenly begin marrying.

Masquerading, as in, using religion as a tool to gain legitimacy for a stance that would otherwise be considered completely unacceptable and ridiculous.
Why shouldn't blacks and white be allowed to marry? God.
Why must all the Jews be slaughtered? God.
Why must only abstinence be taught in schools? God.
Why must evolution not be taught/creation be taught? God.
Why must gays be kept from marrying? God.Good job, friend-of-friends!

Sometimes, Tax, your posts drop the the intelligence level of the entire forum by 10s. Instead of spouting ignorant nonsense, why don't you actually do some research. Start with the wiki entry for AIDS? Here, I'll even give you the link because I realize finding the ambition to educate yourself can be a pain: HIV/AIDS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Offended? No. I don't have AIDS, nor am I gay as far as I'm aware. Saddened that someone would willingly spout such uninformed nonsense on my forums, very much so.
Even so, you're free to say what you like, just as I'm free to tell you how I feel about what you say. Keep in mind though, I may be the only one wasting time on replying to such drivel, but I am not the only one that considers said drivel to be ignorant rantings of the willfully misinformed.
A little educational reading goes a long way.

When I said man must have screwed an ape I was in the ball park. Look at the Wikipedia entry I posted. When you said "Sometimes, Tax, your posts drop the the intelligence level of the entire forum by 10s." I thought you were offended.

Not just the Old Testament.
1 Cor 6:9-11, 1 Tim 1:8-11, Romans 1:26-28
The reason I think most want to outlaw gay marriage, other than believing it to be a sin, is because they think that the benefits of marriage in an insurance, etc context should be reserved for what they deem a "proper" marriage.
and as a footnote, I don't believe you are born gay, there is no gay gene. It is a choice, just like anything else we do. I don't believe God when create a person who had no choice but to sin. That would take away free moral agency.

taxman,
let me toss something at you. I did not follow your link butttttt, What do you think are likely ways for one to contract aids from monkeys?
1) some tribesman could have humped a monkey? I am not sure if the green monkey is physically large enough to reasonably receive a humans equipment.
2) Some tribesman was out hunting killed a monkey for food and while dressing the monkey he nicked himself with a blade allowing blood to blood transfer?
3) Some native person was hunting a green monkey and accidentally poked himself with his arrow when putting it back in his quiver.
4) some native person ate rare meat and his gingivitis allowed for blood to blood transfer.
5) ...

Dude when did you choose to like women? Personally I just did like women. there was no choice. Whether it is a gene or just how your brain was wired during your formative years you have no more choice of whether you are gay than whether you like sweets or liver.
God created man inherently to sin this was proven in eden, and even with his favorite angel. You know original sin and all that rot. Then to top it all off not only does god give people this propensity to sin but then he puts irresitable temptations there to make you fall from graces.
"here you go adam and eve here is this wonderful place everything is super great, you can use it at will. Just don't touch this super cool fruit on this tree because it will let you know really cool stuff."
