Obama authorizes secret support for Syrian rebels
Obama authorizes secret support for Syrian rebels | Reuters
The full extent of clandestine support that agencies like the CIA might be providing also is unclear.

Huh. Interesting. I didn't read far, but how the rebels have become more coherent and organized in the recent past may be telling of outside influence, ie something like CIA people training strategy and the like.
Or it could just be hullaboo for Reuters ratings.

That's the thing about leaks -- they aren't supposed to happen.

Is it a leak, if the President leeks it? Obama has leaked sensitive classified info before.
BOT . . . SAS and American SO personnel have been working in Syria for a while now. Primary mission is recon.

Americans operating in Syria? Which is right next door to allies Turkey and Israel? I'm shocked at this intrusion upon a sovereign nation's internal dispute!

They have been there all along. The point is to "signal" cooperation... Al Quaeda, Hezbolla, and others are looking to get their hands on chemical weapons.
Why? Not to use themselves.. they are too difficult to use due to saturation requirements to reach lethal levels, to say nothing about the public outcry of gassing civilians.
However, packing them around rocket launchers in populated areas of Gaza would release the gas during an Israeli counter strike, allowing Hezbolla and others to blame Israel for using poison gas on civilians.
Think of the CIA in the middle east as "Guido" with a check book. They buy everything they can to get it off the street, and the poison gas is no exception.Obama doesn't need an "enemies list"... He sees half the country as his enemy.

I didn't realize Palestinians practiced targeting their own to score political points. Have a link to this sort of activity happening in the past?
Good job, friend-of-friends!
