Arrow USA WINS even if the case is dismissed against Dotcom/MEGAUPLOAD.

    Go USA!!

Government: we can freeze Mega assets even if case is dismissed | Ars Technica
Not only that, but the government believes it can continue to freeze Megaupload's assets and paralyze its operations even if the judge grants the motion to dismiss. That's because in the government's view, the assets are the proceeds of criminal activity and the prosecution against founder Kim Dotcom will still be pending. The fact that the assets are in the name of Megaupload rather than its founder is of no consequence, the government claimed.
I admit that the money we will keep from Kim Dotcom and the Megaupload fiasco is pocket change, It will still help defray the costs we wasted in trying to extradite him and prove he was guilty.

So, who here isn't disturbed that the STATE can say:
No1_Vern(for example) cant be proven guilty, but we can seize all his assets - including any funds he needs for his defense, and if/when the judge dismisses the case, the STATE keeps all the money!
ISN'T THAT THE BEST POSSIBLE RESULT??

What a bunch of shit! I loved Megaupload. I downloaded FREE scenery for FS 2004 from there and they give you a good download rate and a lot of download slots. Unlike that damn German site that throttles free downloads Rapidshare.

Am I the only person here disturbed that the STATE can seize a persons assets even if the case against him has been dismissed?

This started as a defense against drug lords who had the means to hire high powered attorneys and beat the government.

Now it has morphed all the way down to local police confiscation cars of men soliciting hookers.

Give the government an inch and they will take a mile. Now they can seize everything you own, and leave you with a public defender to argue your case and there is nothing you can do about it.
Obama doesn't need an "enemies list"... He sees half the country as his enemy.

It's hard to care when the case is brought against an obvious thief. The bigger problem, at least in the short term, is the lack of any sort of international law involving the Internet.
    Good job, friend-of-friends!
