How the F do Judges(Frank Coleman and Veldore Young) justify putting children into jail?CNN) -- Officials in Lauderdale County, Mississippi, have operated "a school-to-prison pipeline" that violates the constitutional rights of juveniles by incarcerating them for alleged school disciplinary infractions, some as minor as defiance, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.
"Students most affected by this system are African-American children and children with disabilities," the Justice Department said.
The federal agency's civil rights division seeks "meaningful negotiations" in 60 days to end the constitutional violations or else a federal lawsuit would be filed against state, county and local officials in Meridian, according to a Justice Department letter dated Friday to those officials.
The letter also names two Lauderdale County Youth Court judges, Frank Coleman and Veldore Young.
State and local officials couldn't be reached immediately for comment Friday.
"The systematic disregard for children's basic constitutional rights by agencies with a duty to protect and serve these children betrays the public trust," Thomas E. Perez, assistant U.S. attorney general, said in a statement. "We hope to resolve the concerns outlined in our findings in a collaborative fashion, but we will not hesitate to take appropriate legal action if necessary."
In 2009, the Lauderdale County Juvenile Detention Facility in Meridian was the target of a federal class-action lawsuit by the Southern Poverty Law Center that alleged children and teens were subjected to "shockingly inhumane" treatment, the center said. They say technology slows down for no one. They are asshats?
Discipline is one thing, this kind of garbage is going way too far.
In fact, schools in general have been going too far for two decades now. Disciplinary actions in school for things that students did out of school on their own time on private property is 100% bullshit. Parents that let the schools get away with it should have their kids taken away until they learn how to be real parents.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department sued Mississippi state and local officials on Wednesday over what it called a "school-to-prison pipeline" that violates the rights of children, especially black and disabled youths.
The suit alleges that police officers in Meridian, Mississippi, routinely arrested students who were suspended from school, even when they had no probable cause to believe the students had committed a crime.
"We found that children have been incarcerated for being suspended from school for things like dress code violations or talking back to teachers," said Roy Austin, a senior civil rights official in the Justice Department.
The police department acted as little more than a "taxi service" between schools and a juvenile detention center 80 miles away, where students did not have access to lawyers or counselors, the suit says.

I'm remembering a similar situation that Michael Moore touched on in one of his documentaries. In that situation, the judge was complicit and actually receiving kickbacks from the privately owned prison.
I wouldn't be surprised if something similar was happening here.Good job, friend-of-friends!
