Progressive Defends Killer to Avoid Paying Insurance Policy
Progressive denies defending the killer, but their in-house attorney Mr. Moffet assisted the defense team and court documents show Progressive was allowed "to intervene as a party Defendant."Katie died in a car crash in June 2010 after another driver ran a red light. That driver's insurance company immediately settled with Katie's estate, according to Fisher's post, but because the driver was underinsured, Fisher's family looked to Progressive to make up the difference, in keeping with the terms of Katie's policy.
Maryland doesn't allow private citizens to sue insurance companies for refusal to pay. So his family did the only thing they could, Fisher says: take the other driver to court to establish his negligence, and use that decision to force Progressive to honor its policy.
SNIP
"At the trial, the guy who killed my sister was defended by Progressive's legal team," Fisher wrote. "If you are insured by Progressive, and they owe you money, they will defend your killer in court in order to not pay you your policy."

The Chairman of the Board for Progressive Insurance is a HUGE supporter of Liberals, ACLU, and Liberal causes. In the last 10 years, he has donated millions of dollars to various Liberal causes, ACLU, and the Democratic party . . . While he plays no role in the day-to-day running of Progressive now, he is still the biggest single stock holder of the Corporation.
For some reason, this sick, sad, story doesn't surprise me.
Background on Peter Lewis and his donation history.
And guys like Theo, MTA, pickel, Nick, etc., think only Republicans are rich and major corporate figures . . .

I guess the ultimate question is, (is progressive within their contractual obligations?) I saw no comment on what progressive argument is against payment.

And what have they ever said that makes you think that?
Why would you assume that these intelligent individuals would be dumb enough to think only one type of person can be rich?
Then he's free to donate to who he chooses, right? While he plays no role in the day-to-day running of Progressive now, he is still the biggest single stock holder of the Corporation.
And are you trying to equate the one thing with the other? That since he's a rich liberal, that's why "his" company is trying to screw over the Fisher family? Or just not surprised in general that a corporation would try to duck their duty? I get that one.For some reason, this sick, sad, story doesn't surprise me.
That's what I would like to know as well. Right now, we're only getting one half the story and it's coming from a grieving family member who also happens to be a comedian who broke the story via twitter.Good job, friend-of-friends!
