Arrow Romney’s Military Advisory Council has more than 300 retired general officers

Now that is a list of supporters and large pool of future advisors . . .

The Mitt Romney campaign announced Wednesday it has stood up a Military Advisory Council made up of more than 300 retired generals and admirals who are ready to do battle for the Republican nominee.

"I am deeply honored to have the support of so many of our most accomplished military leaders," Romney said in a statement. "Together we will restore our military might and ensure that America can defend and protect our interests, our allies, and our people, both at home and abroad. I will never forget that the greatest responsibility of an American president is in exercising the role of commander-in-chief. That role is sacred, and when I am president, I will never put my own political interests ahead of our military and our men and women in uniform."

Among the better-known military men endorsing Romney today are Army Gen. Tommy Franks, the key architect of the military plan to oust Saddam Hussein, former Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James Conway, former Pacific Command chief Adm. Timothy Keating, and former Joint Chiefs Chairman Army Gen. Hugh Shelton, who was the top military officer at the end of the Clinton administration and who led the planning for the 1999 intervention in Kosovo. Shelton endorsed Hillary Clinton for president in 2008.

"I'm proud to be supporting Mitt Romney in this critical election about our nation's future," Franks said. "Governor Romney is committed to restoring America's leadership role in the world. Instead of playing politics with our military, he will strengthen our defense posture by reversing the president's devastating defense cuts. The fact of the matter is that we cannot afford another four years of feckless foreign policy. We need level-headed leadership which will protect our interests and defend our values with clarity and without apology."

"I consider the unprecedented national debt amongst the five greatest threats to the security of our great nation," said Conway. "And yet, I see no indication the current administration, if re-elected, is intent on changing that trajectory. Clearly defense should bear a portion of the burden in order to regain control of our debt, but the idea of massive military cuts --at a time of increased global instability -- should not even be in the cards. As I listen to Mitt Romney, I am convinced that he 'gets it'."

Romney campaign aides told The Cable that the council isn't set to have any formal meetings, but that each member has expressed his willingness to endorse the governor and provide expert national security advice if called upon to do so.

"The great thing about the list is the size of it," one aide said. "Just an enormous outpouring of support for the governor. And with it comes a broad range of expertise."

So what? The military is mostly Republican, and the guys on top even more so.

It's about advice, and the politics of it. Someone advised Obama to "be nice to Muslims and they will be nice to you"... How'd that work out?
Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

Who was it, that said the military strongly supports Democrat's and polls showing otherwise are biased and wrong???

Which party is it, that keeps trying to block or through out the military vote???

Which party is trying to dis-enfranchise our military???

Theo's just pissed because these possible advisors are not only book smart, but street smart as well. I'm pleased to see that Romney is willing to work with them . . . hopefully, he will also listen to them, which is something Obama does not appear to like to do, or has done.

    No it hasn't . . .

We still have redneck morons attacking mosque's and killing Sikh's, thinking they were Muslim's.

    Got it now Whir?

I get that you are confused about the precedence of the statements. Once again, the president's policies have no bearing on the actions of reprehensible morons, American or otherwise.

Internationally, we are agreeable with all Muslim nations who are not threatening war and/or genocide, and they reciprocate.

Would you and Charles rather that we take the international stance that all Muslims are murderers and warmongers and treat them all as such? Well, and I may be mistaken, I'm pretty sure that IS was Chuck thinks. But God help us when we get a president stupid enough to go that route.

Lt. General William "Jerry" Boykin (US Army, Retired) is a pal of Romney's, too.

My point is, the advice given to Obama (as stated above) and followed by Obama (the way he's responded to various incidents tells me he is trying to follow that advice), has proven to be a failure.

    It's a failure on 2 levels.

On the first level, the terrorists (Muslim especially), through custom and tradition, see this as weakness. In fact, it emboldens them.

On the second level, Obama would have to expect everyone in the US to "play nice" toward Muslim's in general. Since the vast majority of Muslim's are in fact, good people . . . it's not hard for him to believe that American's would "play nice". Problem is, there are too many morons, idiots, etc., that think and believe all Muslim's are bad. These people don't even understand that there are non-Muslim religions that wrap their heads. These people don't understand the difference between a Mosque and a temple. They attack and kill. Obama should have realized these people were out there and would do the stupid things they have done and will do.

Diplomacy doesn't mean always giving in, apologizing, and bending over. Diplomacy can take many forms, styles, and tones, depending on the country/people/traditions/cultures you are attempting to deal with.

    No SHIT!?!

Can you name any "Flag" Officer's and how many can you name . . . that are pals of Obama?

300 is a HUGE chunk of the currently living "retired" Flag Officers. To be honest, I didn't think the number was that high. But, I also recognize some of them, as I served under them or dealt with them or their command in my duties.

Whir, I think you missed the greater point: Where are we having the most trouble in the world, and why do we think Iran having a nuke is a bad idea.

Islam has a peculiar aspect of not allowing divergence from Allah. I for one disagree, and until they rewrite their Quarn, I'll take them at their word.
Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

Of course they're going to support Rmoney, republicants are notorious military pork spenders! Rmoney is proposing to add $200 Billion to the defense budget, which means lotsa coin in the pockets of these retired flag officers who will most likely be hired as "consultants" by the defense industry.

They are also the perfect advisors for cutting programs/systems, while forming a stronger, more capable military, at a cheaper cost.

Also Nick, like me, most Officers I knew were Non-Partisan. We had to be! Our careers depended on it. Want to kiss your career goodbye? Go political.

I agree with that statement. When I was in ROTC I learned that you can't be political. Especially in the military where it doesn't matter who the commander in chief is, whether Democrat or Republican.

Okay, we will have to agree to disagree on previous statements.

On the later topics, imagine what even 10% of that 200 billion could do for our educational system.

Our educational system is well funded. It's the over payed unions who are doing a shity job! You simply can't get rid of a bad teacher.

YUP! Here in Oregon, it would fund another layer of administration and OR would still be near the bottom and educationally challenged.

BTW, each has their own staff.

    District Super
    Asst. Super
    Super of Transportation
    Super of Curriculum
    Super of Student Affairs

Ea. Elementary, Middle, High, Alternative Schools have:
    Principal
    Asst Principal
    Vice Principal of Curriculum
    Vice Principal of Student Affairs
    Teachers
    Asst Teachers
    Teachers Aides

My daughters middle school classroom had 45 students, 1 teacher, and 1 teachers aide.

Oregon was granted exceptions by Obama for this years standards . . .

I fully believe you could give that full $200,000,000 to the Oregon Education and we'd come out even worse in education. BUT, we'd have even more layers of administration, each with their own staffs.
