[FaD] I dont understand
I dont understand why i am running 3 processes of think when this computer only has one cpu. They all seem to be running a different job so i dont know.

You can lower the copys of think that run in the setup, just set it to 1.

Is there any advantage in having three processes of it running or does it just split the work three ways.
-
November 29th, 2004, 11:24 PM #4
Nope, it is better to only run on copy of think per CPU.

(I think) If you have 3 copies running on one CPU, they will all compete with each other for cpu time and will slow each other down.

I had to stop FAD and restart it for the change in number of processes to work. For some rerason when it was set to auto, it started 8 processes, so I changed it to run 1 at a time..

TwinkleToes,
Why don't you run the beta and commercial projects?
-
December 1st, 2004, 06:27 PM #10Because TTwit's notorious for screwwing up his computers!!

Between you and me, the truth is that I'm too smart to get caught up with that sort of stuff - I cleverly stay with the rabble and let people who are more computer-wise like Sharder do all the sweating over the testing work.
I deselect "Commercial" mainly cos I don't know what it might entail !!! So far as I know FaD - which is a non-profit organization - has not had any commercial projects yet. I hate to say this, but maybe Sharder knows more about it than I do ?

Wouldnt commerical mean research for commercial applications, instead of working on drugs to help everyone? I have commercial, bioterrorism antidotes, and herb and pesticides deselected.

Well first it's not for profit which is different than non-profit but hey remember if there is no money to be made in curing or treating something, nothing gets done. It takes money to do research and while there are grants they amount to a tiny fraction of the costs in producing medicines . Ofcourse what you chose to run on your computer is entirely up to you.

FAD, and company that runs it, is very open, so any new projects would be posted on their forums and users would be informed. I beleive that would include and commercial projects that FAD users are asked to run.
Like TT, I do deselect Commercial, as I would like to know exactly what commercial projects I was running. Commercial is selected by default, I think, in both windows and linux installs, so if you aren't sure you want to run any commercial projects, deselect it.
Cheers
MickI don't like sigs on forums like this.
