From time to time I like to check out the UD client on each machine. Tonight I looked at the Athlon machine in the other room...The one my wife wanted more accessible so she could burn cd's with it...well, she turned off the client...grrrrrr...
LOL, oh well
I checked my stats and found that it hadn't uploaded since the 16th...
Hmmm...so, do I just watch closer or bring the herd back together in 1 room to moo in harmony?
ok, my little rant is over now

What Swampy said.... Just watch 'em closer. I'm afraid if you bring the herd back together in harmony, you may create some disharmony in the rest of the household.
Nobody can love our herds like we do, so if it takes a bit of extra effort, well, that's what it takes.
BTW, there's some stuff they've been using in New England since before Dirt, called Bag Balm, that cows find udderly delightful. I've got a tin of it, I could take a handful and stick it in the cupholder of one of the cows and upload it to ya. I don't think the cow would mind at all

You are both right...I just need to make sure that I am considerate of her needs...I wouldn't want her upset with me of course...
oh, and as for my wife I guess I just need to train her a little better...hehe

You could do what I did. Have the client always displayed on your screen. That way when she sees it all of the time, whe will ask what it is. This is where your salemanship come in. Preach it up so that she will feel bad if it is not running for even 1 sec of the day.

well if the machine was running on XP, or 2k pro.. u could install it as a service.. and hide the try icon.. so she wouldn't know it was on.. and it will run itself if she chooses to restart the system.
u can find info on it in the thread below.. Quick Question about UD
also.. u could set windows task manager to run the program for you..

I can identify with your prob, Marc. My wife used to turn all my study PC's off before she went to bed, as the study is connected to our bedroom and she could hear 'em all whirring away. But I showed her the UD site, and even showed here the site at Oxford, and she's agreed it's important. The kids even let me keep their PC's on in their rooms o/night as well, so they are all on 24/7 now.
It just a bit of communication, that's all. They can see its important to me, so they want to help if they can.
All for the sake of finding a cure to our biggest killer. I wouldn't do it for ET or prime numbers, but I'm giving it all I've got for UD Think Cancer. | |
