Arrow [FaDChatThu06]Meese Robbed - Nobel Prizes go to others

It is with astonishment we read that the TIMO FaD team's favourite illegitimate son, the immortal Meese, has again been ignored by the Nobel Committee. Both the Physics and Chemistry prizes have been awarded to comparative charlatans! We can only hope that when it comes to the Medicine, Literature - or even Peace - awards the Committee will see the error of its ways, and give our hero the recognition he so richly deserves.

Ever thought about "headless crunchers"? OK, I know that apart from you and I (and TRB and Darkheart and Nunya and Caro), we have a lot of headless crunchers around here, but I meant machines running without monitors. Women tend not to notice metal boxes lying around the place: what they do notice though is monitors, no doubt because monitors look like shop windows, and the dear ladies get all confused and upset when there are no dresses or price tags to study. No, that's the way to go: set up a couple of headless crunchers!

How do you know when it inevitably crashes then?

The headless machine is on my LAN and I use a programme called TightVNC which means that I can control it from my main machine: I get the screen (which doesn't exist because there is no monitor) up on this screen here. I also run a programme called FaDSpy to tell me whether FaD is running or not. (If FaD isn't running I deedoooce that the machine isn't either.)

There's a very good tutorial at FaD telling you how to set up a headless machine. Lemme go and find it...BRB

    There you go:

    Setting Up a Headless Cruncher

Quick as a flash! Now you see why they call me twinkletoes.

Hey Detritus - ignore all the building stuff at the start of that tutorial...skip straight to Section 13 for the running headless bit !!!

Now I gotta go out in the garden and throw some leaves around so that wife thinks I've been working hard out there all day!!!

Nobel Peace Prize? I'm lucky if I get a prize from a box of Captain Crunch... and if I do I have to steal it from my kids.

Although I'm sure the committee, and the World not doubt, would benefit from my enhanced analytical views on Peace, Medicine and the such.

I like UltraVNC better. But of course I use it everyday tweaking and working on my 70 network machines.
UltraVNC has better screen scaling for those machines, I have 30% of my users that refuse to go higher than 800x600. and I have my screen set up for 1280x1024 so need to say nothing ever fits, but UltraVNC works great.

The screen scaling is OK on TightVNC, just that you have to set the values every time if you're intending to fiddle around.

How difficult is UltraVNC to set up for the average 3-thumbed tongue-chewing non-techie...er...I'm thinking of Detritus here naturally...
