Ok next SMP question. Can I run it on a Dual Processor server? IE The HP LC2000 Net server with dual PIII 1GHZs CPUs. (Impulse engines)

| Quote: | We are also releasing another type of client: the Folding@Home SMP client. SMP means "Symmetric Multi-processing" and it is a term that generally refers to the situation where a computer has more than one processor core. Dual core CPU's are pretty common and even 4-core boxes (currently implemented as dual socket dual core computers, such as Apple's Mac Pro) are becoming common. With advances from Intel and AMD, quad core processors are on the horizon, with 8-core and even 16-core boxes soon to become common. | From the way they make it sound, I believe you could in fact retro fit your impulse engine to run the SMP client.. |

Time to investigate turning the thrusters into a warp core. (Insert evil laugh here.) |

You'all correct but the issue is the cpu. As you all know smp client spawn four(4) fah clients and the two older cpu will have to split those 4 processes between two processors.
Real life result, smp client finishes twice as long as a real quaddie given the same speed. SMP client is also optimized for the newer processors and speed addons like sse,sse2,sse3,etc,etc.
Maybe its better to run two standard wu and let it finish in time or have the two processor struggle to complete the smp wu in time. |
