| Folderchat 4/17/08 The Estonians were coming!
At one point it was under 3 day until they passed us, but with our new additions to the Team we have held them off. Don't let your guard down they could launch another attack at any time.

Ok, I've finally decided to test the waters and join in - although I'll be re-building my LT again shortly....
I didn't realise it would take as long as it does to complete a "WU", but that may well be caused in part by the LT going so slowly recently (hence the reason I'm re-building it)... It seems that the current one is going to take about three or four days to complete, although it says it has done 1080/1500.............. Is this normal....?

Hey Bud!
The GUI (which you are running) takes the longest of all the different folding setup.
But, if I'm understanding right, your running this on your Lappy? If so, it's gonna take awhile. They are not the best crunchers out there.
Why aren't you running it on the new dual core box? You would be getting the same score as me (1760 a day), and you'd get a WU done a day... |

As for the 64b Dual: I haven't finished playing with it yet, so I'm still messing about with it, and trying to decide exactly what I'm going to doing with my LAN configuration and machines... As I think I've told you before, G doesn't want it to be constantly on - esp if it is in Tia's room (formerly my study/IT room).
I'm considering changing my W2k3 SBS into a W2k8 SBS, but I might also change the new build into that instead (I think I may have done too much with the current SBS - office and Skype just for starters) in which case I might move the new build into the cubby under the stairs (next to where the SBS is now) and then she wouldn't know the difference...!
Anyway, I think I'm straying off subject now, so I'll save this for another thread/chat.... |

Folding.
I am using the GUI client just now. How easy is it to switch to the CLI version and keep your place in the workunits?

Also, recommendations on an AM2 socket processor to upgrade from my current Sempron 3400+ would be nice. Not hideously expensive, but dual core may be nice. |

make sure you let the gui finish the wu before changing over to the console to be in the safe side. Hate to waste cpu cycles.

Paul, E-man is right. Just let the GUI finish the WU, then make the switch. I really don't think there is a way to save your current WU and switch, at least non I'm aware of.
And about the CPU, what's your budget?
I would say a new Quad, because they're somewhat cheap, and they'd be really good at spitting out WU's.
But, if your in the market for just a dual core, I'd say check into the black editions, 6400+x2, 6000+x2, 5000+x2. They have unlocked multi's on them, which can be fun to play with. |
