Folder Chat:4/25 Where did everyone go??
I remember the good ole' days. When I could log on to TIMO, and go to the folder chat thread, where there would be a nice conversation about folding, or getting a cow up and running. You know, just chat..
Now days, it seems everyone quit talking.
What happened??

OK, here's osmething to talk about:
F@H keeps crashing at (I think) the end of each WU. They still finish and still upload, but I have to start the program up again. The first time it did it it started up and did a WU at frame 0, but the second time it did it it was 100/500 frames through my 3rd WU, so maybe it is just random crashing. Hasn't done it when I've been at the computer though, only when I'm sleeping or in the shower, etc.// E6400 @ 2.80ghz // 7600GT @ 590/720 // 2GB Patriot DDR2-800 //

Hmm..
Dawg that's weird. Does you internet connection always stay on? If you loose connection, it will make F@H freeze.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

It is always on. Cox 10MBPS (Though I get more like 20).
I finished my third WU and I'm halfway through my fourth, with no problems. Perhaps it has something to do with my screensaver?// E6400 @ 2.80ghz // 7600GT @ 590/720 // 2GB Patriot DDR2-800 //

Possibly. Or maybe you have it set up to suspend, or shut off HDD's after a period of time. Might check into those..

I watched it do it this time. Everything is successfully sent, and it gets the new WU and a second or two after it says "working..." it just crashes, with a windows notice and all. starts right back up though, never says anything about it and acknowledges my 4 WUs.
I have another question: Just how fast are the GPU versions of F@H? I wanted to do an SMP and GPU2 at the same time but it says not to. My graphic card is a 7600GT so obviously it wouldn't do a whole lot.
Would it be worth it to run both, or should I just run the SMP?Last edited by CoonDawg; April 25th, 2008 at 08:20 PM.

The NCC 86477G Garbage Scow passed through an Electrical storm on it latest voyage to the Dump.
All engines are up and running, but can only get one to engage at this time.
MR Scott is cussing up a blue streak over this Damn Free Router. Seems it randomly restarts several times a day, and now is back to its old non communicative ways.
Seeing as there are more storms in the quadrant we will continue on with the starboard engines, and re-engage the others later.

Sorry Nunya.. Kind of wishing I would have never sent it. Seems to be the leading stress factor in your life currently..

@Coon.
Nvidia cards can not fold. Only ATI cards. Why, I have no idea, I think it's really dumb of stanford not to develop a GPU client for Nvidia cards. Think of all the 8800's out there, or now 9800's that could be crunching.
But, the SMP client is the way to go IMO. Othes prefer 2x instances of the console..Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Its all good Karma. I just have to shut everything down and bring it back up in the proper order. (just have to figure out what order that is, would imagine router, modem , computers.)Had quirks like this with my Linksys, just a little different. Look at it this way if everything worked perfectly right out of the box We would never learn anything.
the way I had things set on the Linksys I even had to start the computers in a set order so there Ip's would be right. (Due to a Job done Half ass'd right.)
As for the stress, thats just the part I'm willing to talk about, and you wanted the good old days with talk about cows and getting them running. just Thought I would add to the thread. lolLast edited by nunyadam; April 25th, 2008 at 09:47 PM.

I can't get SMP to work. Whenever I try and run the install.bat it says "credentials rejected", no matter what I name myself. According to the FAQ it says to use an account name that is the same as your windows login name, which I've done. Only thing that isn't the same is the password, but I h ave no password set for my Windows login anyway.

Speaking of electrical storms in the quadrant. My dual xeon just got zapped dead cold and I would not be able to determine if the psu died or the 4 year old PCDL deluxe went to Mr Scott's favorite Dump

Do not fear I is still here. Limping but still here.

Coon, a couple of things.
1. It does not have to be that same as your windows log in name.Mine isn't, and I've had no problems.
2. You have to have a password on your windows account to run the SMP. Again, not sure why, but try setting up a password and see what happens..
@ E- 2x Xeons dead?!?!
Maybe that's why the latest stats (OCing ones) graph showed us dropping like flies. Still working on getting a quad going here. Soon enough!!Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Main power gone!!

That's no good dude.
Important lesson, when it's storming, UNPLUG YOUR LAN CABLE. 90% of everyone's PC that gets zapped during storms comes in from the LAN cable.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

hello is this thing on,
i'm folding for techimo!! what are you doing?

April 25th, 2008, 10:58 PM #18
isn't working on computers just great,
boy them there software company's there right on top of everything, NOT!!!!
I have been installing xp and vista in dual boot, but there is a big problem with XP,
every time I install the chipset drivers for this intel P35 chipset, after the computer restarts the USB ports stop working, which means no mouse and keyboard,
so after looking at the readme file (five pages long) right at the bottem under known problems, guess what is listed,
thats right USB ports stop working, so what does it say to do,
microsoft has a fix for it listed in it's Knowledge Base, so go read the microsoft knowledge Base for K2384622 for fix,
OK wait you know there is a problem and you know how to fix it, so instead of listing the fix in your readme file, or better yet providing the fix, you tell me to go to microsoft,
HEEEELLLOOOOO mcflie,
i'm folding for techimo!! what are you doing?

Actually I capped out at 3.10. I had seriously raised the voltages and it wouldn't go to 3.15 so I was content. Only problem is without a box fan sitting directly on my computer, it will restart after a few minutes on anything above 2.80.2-90. I have it set at 2.80 actually, never got around to editing my sig. Temps are fine during idle, I don't know why it restarts at idle but not load. It's odd. Especially when I factor in the fact that it ran a good 20 C higher than now with stock clocks and an improperly seated heatsink and it never restarted.

That's weird.
My chip had no voltage increase until 3.25Ghz. After that, I have to make a hefty jump to 1.45 to make anything stable. Max I've hit and can post is 3.59Ghz, but it won't load windows no matter what..Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

I was wondering when the pompous ass would chime in. tony, I only asked because he was too lazy to do the work himself.
