Ok Mythbusters overload, well that and the MacGyver episode they did got Me thinking about those of you in hot computer rooms.
My Computer sits on my desk right near the window ac unit, it stays cool, But it is not directly in the airflow.
My wife mentioned that the Dryer vent hose came loose....... You see where this is going already don't you........
Parts at hand for the experiment.
1. 250 CD metal tower.
2. a metal Dryer vent hose.
using great care not to accidentally short out the computer I bent the hose to fit over the CPU fan, and routed it through the CD rack so one end is over the CPU the other in front of the AC vent.
CPU is an overclocked Barton XP2500+
Results
idle temps
Celsius / Fahrenheit
39/96 before
29/84 after
100% load (running F@H)
43/109 before
33/91 after
That was with the AC on low.
current temp with it on High running at 100%
(DRUM ROLL PLEASE!)
31/87

I can show you pics upon pics of people doing the same thing. Hell, I built a little wood box that sits on top of the AC vent, and guess where my tower sits.
It does help quite a bit.
(BTW, that's how you know your a TRUE overclocker. When you use household cooling just on the PC.) Quote:

Have you got the new Beta6 they released? It came out like Sat or Sun. I've been running it for a day or to. No problems for me.. |

Hmm..Sometimes on mine it takes a second for it to realize it's going faster. Are you watching the display or something to get the numbers?
Have you got FahMon going? That really the best way to tell..

Hmm..
Not sure what to tell you.
DON'T OPEN THE GPU2 DISPLAY!!
I mean, you can, but it slows the crunching down by A LOT. And don't try to get your numbers from there either, they are never right.
Other then that, I'd say give the new beta a go, and see what that shows.
Might also try OCing your card with Precision. It's what I use, and it does show a difference when I OC my card.. |
