GPU questions
Kay guys and gals. Installed my new el cheapo evga 8800GS 384mb and loaded the gpu client.
1.Does the client does not give you an option to put it on different folder/drive?
2. The system tray gui looks like it is crunching but the tab name next to say "core is not" and under it the tab team "running now". What exactly does it mean?
3. FAHmonitor say my ppd is only1746 and each wu is wortj 480, is that correct?
KK how how do I oc this video?
thanks guys

If you want help, I suggest cleaning up your post and giving a little more info...
It made my head hurt trying to read that and get exactly what your talking about...
Just my 2 cents

1) I didn't see an option for changing the folder during the install (the log and stuff is saved @ Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Folding....)
2) Not following
3) Yep.. that would mean that your card would finish almost 4 work units each worth 480 points per day...
To overclock, I guess you could download NVidia's own software (it installs a control panel and lets you overclock) or download something like RivaTuner...boo!

I'm here for ya E.. (my head doesn't even hurt)

1. Same as eagle. I haven't found a way to switch the install folder from the default.
2. It's saying that because it doesn't like your drivers, and it's not running. So what drivers are you using? I know a lot of people are running the 177.35 drivers, but those are the ones I never got to work myself. But for my 9600GT, I had to use the 174.53 drivers. I can already tell you this is gonna be the worst headache of them all. Once you do find the drivers that work though, it's all down hill from there. Whatever drivers your get, they have to support CUDA, or it will not fold..
3. Yes that's correct. But if it's not running, then I don't think the PPD really matter yet. The GPU client folds much much much faster then CPU clients. I normally get 3-4 WU's done a day on the 9600. The 9800 has been pulling 5-6 when OC'd some..
On to overclocking, there a couple of different options. My favorite, and easiest IMO, is use EVGA Precision. It's simple to use, and it works on all Nvidia cards. Rivatuner is another option, and it's fairly easy to use too. Ntune would be your last option, and IMO the worst.
Be careful when oveclocking though. On mine, the GPU would fold for a bit, then stop and say something about a unstable core. It is pretty picky when you get in to overclocking. And really, the only thing you need to overclock is your shaders, that's what the client uses to crunch on. So Core and Vram don't matter as much, if at all..

Did I miss anything?Last edited by KarmaKiller; July 16th, 2008 at 08:54 PM.

Just a note: For my 8800 GTS 512 I'm using 1.7519 drivers and they seem to be working quite alright!
I have RivaTuner installed but I don't think I need to overclock right now.
The only games I'm playing are Bioshock and Portal and they seem to be running in the high 70s at the resolution I use so...
boo!

Thanks eagle1 and KK, your answers are direct and to the point. Just verfying with the expert/actual users on what exactly I am looking at since I've never used the client before.

Now KK here is the rub. While looking for the fahlog.txt for the gpu client, I've found it on a system hidden folders which I had to unhide for FAHmonitor to see. The log file said that I have completed 1 wu send it to the server and now crunching another wu. The obvious question is the gui/driver issue just eyewash while the actual gpu client crunch on the background???

I'm back, had to run a errand real quick.
The display is indeed, fubar'd. In vista it worked for me, but it slowed things down, a lot. But in XP, it won't open at all. I'm not even sure if I have the latest client though. I got the second one they released.
*/shrugs/*
But glad to hear you got her going E.

Like I said I think it has been running , just not sure what I am looking for/at.
If you guys are using fahmonitor or need to see the log file for the gpu client. The log file is located hidden C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator(your username)\Application Data\fah-gpu

Stuck on this corporate environment. Dress right dress, gig line straight.

BTW, if the transmission is not computer controlled, and especially if the engine is running a carb, take a look at the kickdown linkage as well.
