I Fold, Do You?
A poem by BenBrown..
Just thought I'd share with you guys. Team TechIMO could use all the help it can get.I Fold, Do You
Some people Race for the Cure
Some people walk
Everyone desires a cure
but most do no more than talk
But I Fold for the Cure
For Family, Friends, for everyone else
A desire to help
Maybe someday myself
So Fold for the cause
it's only right that you do
The cure that may be found
Could someday be for you.

Nope.
I don't want the extra strain on my power supply or want to dump all that extra heat into my case.
If I had a beefier power supply and a larger, more vented case it might be different."The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

Ex, beefier PSU has nothing to do with it. I run a highly OC'ed Dual core,2gb or RAM 9600GT, 5 case fans, 2HDD's and 1 DVD drive all on a little FSP350watter. It crunchs 24/7, with no issues. And the heat is very minimal for the GPU folding. Which just happens to be the fastest way to fold now a days.

But I understand folding isn't for everyone.
Also, EX, I myself would send you some more case fans if it led to you folding. LMK.

KK,
If you can get a few of your online gamers from TIMO, it would boost our output a lot. Maybe its time to link the official Stanford installation link.
What your 9800 can crank out 5500ppd? Just that video card and it does not affect your gaming??

Not really at all E. Some games are picky about it, but for the most part I run all my games with GPU folding in the back ground with out issues. Some games it does cut down the FPS, but nothing unbearable.
And the CPU folding even has less of a effect. I don't notice it's going at all.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

I've got a Q6600 setup with an 8800 GS. This is using the power supply that came with my Dell (says 375w continuous IIRC).
I am not sure that a 350w will hold out on a setup like you have for long, no matter how good it is."The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

Well, I'm gonna find out one way or another.

And I admit, your pushing it. But if your experiencing no problems in games/normal activities, I promise folding isn't gonna cause any.
But I'm not gonna try to convince you of anything. I really liked this poem, and found it to be inspiring.
*Off Topic*
Ex, have you ran 3dMarks at all? I saw a guy with a Q6600 at stock, and a single 8800GS OC'd hit 14,200. That is freaking amazing. I'm just curious to know what kind of score they get stockQ6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Well, turned off the PS3 while rearranging my entertainment area... Should be back up and running 24/7 by tomorrow evening.
I don't like signatures.

The dell power supply is pretty high quality from the looks.
I am downloading 3D Mark 06 right now and I'll give it a try.

I was gonna say. I've seen Dell towers with a 8800GT installed on that same PSU. I think your PSU has plenty of *Umph* to run that system on even the most demanding loads.
But I can't wait to see your score.

3DMark 06 seems to not like Vista x64 for some reason. I just keep getting an error about a missing OpenAL32.dll missing. I've tried what others say to do, but it hasn't helped. :/

Figures..

I know I've probably killed the damn horse by now,
but IF you were to fold, just on your GPU, you could be netting ~4000PPD. Which would put you towards the top of TechIMO's crunchers. It's that easy Ex. And again, it's going to a cause that can/will help people you may know, maybe even yourself one day.
This will be my last attempt to get you to fold, I promise.

Well, give me a link to the gpu folding client.

Also, what app works good for monitoring temps and voltage? I'd like to watch those as I test it to start."The problem with quotations on the internet is that the sources are hard to verify" - Abraham Lincoln

That's straight to the download, I know your in Vista.
As far as temps for the GPU, really I like EVGA's Precision. You can have the window open that shows the temps, clock speeds, fan speeds, everything important.

Looks like that.
Now as far as voltages, everything I've read has told me there is no good way to measure voltages via software. I can't really explain it, but there are tons of threads that explain it on the hardcore PC sites. Google will find them.
But if your wanting just kind of a general idea, then I would suggest something like Pc Wizard. Again, take them with a grain of salt. The best and most accurate way to measure voltage is with a meter. But I know I myself, and I'm betting you also don't want to mess with that.
(Kind of why I was wanting nvidia's ESA thing to take off, but ...)Last edited by KarmaKiller; August 25th, 2008 at 11:41 PM.
