Genome@home project is merging with the Folding@home team
Well folk looks like the combined client is gonna be here very shortly, beta versions available
For the Folding team it is not going to be much of a difference but for the Genome team it's gonna mean that we have to make some choices. GAH 3 is a new project. Like FAH 2 was. We might have a chance of getting higher on this new project and staying there but this is going to be the biggest problem with the new client I think.
The current client will still run 'for the forseeable future' and will keep it's current stats page. Can I nonet/sneakernet with Folding@home3.0?
No, not in the same way as the G@h0.99 client. This is one of the reasons that we're continuing with Genome@home Classic, for all the hardcore nonetters out there!
We will have to decide as a team whether we will move to the new project or stick with the old. My problem is that I will need to change my machines before the end of june.
Well any ideas?

I say we do both. Whoever can't switch or need a reliable client, should keep working on the old GAH.

Hmmm, I have been reading the yahoo genome group and I have mixed emotions! I'm sure of this......the Pande group doesn't quite know what they are going to do! They are having a meeting on Monday to make some decisions!
I, right at this moment, am going to stick with the old client til the end of June!

I've looked into it a bit more. The clients expire on June 4th. And I have not figured out how to have them work on Genome units. There was mention of a 'Core_c6.exe' which is what you should see if the client is working on Genome. All I get is 'Core_65.exe' which is the folding core.
Looks like it is a wait and see.
BTW, anyone that is working on folding and doesn't have a problem with the new client's expire date. I would recommend getting the new client. It is suppose to be much faster.

Just downloaded it there virus and running it on this machine to see how it goes. There is also the prob that recent versions of Folding 2 seem to have problems running as a service with firedaemon.

Well, I'm staying with the old client (for the nonetting thingie) as of now.!
I think that maybe they'll put this option on the newest client knowing that a lot of people don't have 24/7 net access!boo!

Are you using the console client or the fancy pants windowed client?
The windowed client doesn't play friendly with my computer.

I've always found the FAH window client doesn't display that well on my machine. I just run it and keep it minimised.
Suppose I should try and run the console version.

whatever we do, it should be together.

I'm with Nunya there.....we should migrate it as a team if we go. Although the no nonet for the new client is not very handy. I am only running part tiem on m machine, and the 1.4 is now a nonet machine, losing a lot of CPU power if we cant nonet.

I have to stay with nonet client.......as I only have a dial-up connection!
I checked out a number of other teams sites last night, GenomeCollective, AMDMB, and Phoenix Rising and no one is happy at all with the proposed changes!
Hopefully, Stanford and the Pande Group will listen! We choose to donate our CPU cycles to them!
I am quite happy running nonet and if that option is unavailable in the new client I will be forced into another project
Not what I want, at all. This is also what I'm reading on the other sites!

Well some of the latest news from the yahoo group it looks like there will not be a new set of stats. Which hopefully will mean that people can continue to use the current client and keep in the same team as those who may want to use the new one.

g, I hope we are able to keep the same stats setup!
I should probably try the new folding client (3.0)! I didn't have any luck with the older clients.

THe beta client doesn't have support for genome! It is in the best interest ,IMO, for the genomers to keep running the older client.

I agree GilaM no need for a change in the near future i think. Esp as there seems to be more confirmation that there will not be a new project then there is no real need for the new client to be installed

you can google AV Music Morpher Gold from Audio4fun, it allows you to cut, paste, mix songs and add other effects as well! A cool software that I'm using at the moment! Hope it helps!
