So is it pointless to attempt the gpu client with the xfx 7950gx2.

Half the flipping reason I purchased this behemoth of a card way back was to crunch and in reading around Stanford noticed the 7 series of Nvidia cards taking a beating for sucking and why I probably always had issues with the gpu client.

If this is the case I have a new home for the Asus p5n32sli se deluxe mobo I have NEVER been enamored with and the intel c2d 6700 proc.

KarmaKiller you know I like to game a bit Technically there is no reason to upgrade this system yet as it plays all pc games fine and there isn't much on the horizon however I am eagerly anticipating Windows 7 for some odd reason.

Best bang for the buck? I do not need to go all out right now for a video card as I will be purchasing a new one after direct x updates but certainly something better than the 7950gx2 or the ti4600 I have on the spare computer priced aggressively or possibly used would not be out of the question. Maybe I should replace the ti4600 on my backup pc (I NEVER use) with the asus v9950 (card was always a dog) as the p5n32slise deluxe board has a agp slot if I recall?

I have a nice lian-li atx case - no issue

750 watt ThermalTake power supply - no issue

Backup computer has a brand new Antec 400 watt power supply so this might be an issue.

My wife told me I can't install FAH on her laptop. She still has a bad taste in her mouth from the Vista experience and needs it to work for work.

Need a sensible upgrade path considering the imminent release of DirectX 11 and I am a gamer first

well for $200 or so I think Karma was going to sell his 9800GX2 he has.

that would certainly fill your criteria (well depending on the price),

but as far as I know the Geforce 7 series doesn't run with current GPU clients, otherwise I would be grabbing some sweet deals on 7 series cards I've seen lately & using them.

but I think a single Geforce 9800GT or GTX (renamed now as GTS 240 for the 9800GT & GTS 250 for the 9800GTX+) would easily trump the old 7950GX2 in gaming performance and also let you net some decent numbers for folding.

    Karma reporting for duty!

    1. Yes my GPU is still up for sale. $190 to any of the folders.
It easy handles anything, and really I mean anything. That said, 2x GPU cores for mucho PPD.

    2. Best bang for buck GPU (that folds worth a $hit) would be the GTS 250/9800GTX(+)/8800GTS 512Mb. Basically, a nice G92 core will do you.

    Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-1150-TR GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Newegg.com - XFX GS250XYDFC GeForce GTS 250 512MB Core Edition 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
(New COD: WaW free with this one)

    Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

    Newegg.com - XFX PVT98WYDFU GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards
    (Free COD:WaW with this one)

Those are really the best bang for buck. You talking from ~4500PPD to ~6k depending on WU. And they are a gem to game on.

Or are you looking to spend more?
(GTX260 can be had for as low as $169 now)

hey all...I'm back to folding again Used to do it pretty hardcore a couple years ago and just never got back to it after I built my new system...anyways, I'm back on the train and folding Now I just need to work on figuring out the GPU method, although I think I'll wait until my new 275 GTX gets here next week sometime before I start installing it. Thanks

GPU's are the easiest to get going.

Speak Visual with Graphics Plus: Download GeForce Power Packs

(that has all kind of game demo's and such. But it does include drivers, and the folding app is there too)

I'm pretty sure you wont be able to fold with onboard graphics. You will have to run a cpu client. What are the specs on your backup rig?

Somethings running because my cpu is at 30% usage when I look at the task manager. I might of activated the cpu client but the icon name said gpu client.
