dang, had the whole day off, & was nice & sunny, a bit cooler out, but still nice enough to walk the dog. she was nagging me on & off today, but I was able to get in almost 18 hours of sleep today, thats how tired I was from the weekend.
I went to sleep about 3AM, woke up around 10:30AM to take a pee & see if there was any new mail. went back to sleep, woke up around 4:30PM, then again checked the mail & got something to eat (Big Bowl of Progresso Chicken Noodle soup and 2 whole stacks of Ritz), and went back to sleep about 45 minutes to an hour later (side/abdominal area was hurting since I got up, but is better now, don't know if I pulled something in my sleep or I was sleeping on my fist again),
then woke up again around 9-10PM ish...
and have been up since...
and of course there isn't much good on TV tonight...
too bad our dog doesn't know how to use a cattle prodder to shock me in the ass to get me up & take her for a walk (actually its a good thing she doesn't know how to use one LOL), since thats what you practically have to do to get me up in the mornings on my days off.
now I sit here still hungry & trying to decide whether to make this or that for "supper" and watch some DVD's again.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I'm back. The whole reason I was gone for so long is cuz I found my old N64 and my old Zelda game for it.

Was wondering where you went off to.

Side note, baked froze RAM still going strong after 24 hours of folding/gaming. No lock ups, freezes, BSOD's, nadda.. Just is working.

Yep... Yet another weekend for me when I went home to MN and folding stops. Literally moments after I leave, my network router at my apartment goes offline... leaving 6,000 PPD to come to a grinding halt due to lack of work, and I couldn't remote desktop in either. Grrrrr. So I too have a few days of zero production that will take a few days to roll off my stats. ( I am This guy )| i7 920 | -bigadv SMP on linux VM | ATI 4850 GPU |

Well, my various experiments have netted this.
I am finally getting the "A2" WUs on my linux folders, which is what gives linux SMP its dramatic boost of Windows SMP. So...
On my 8-core i7 with ATI 2850, the best package seems to be 3 instances of the linux SMP, each running in its own VMware virtual machine. Each of those will do 1600 PPD when I get P26xx WUs, although I get only 600 PPD each when I get P51xx WUs. Add in 3,100 PPD for my ATI 3850... And I net about 8,000 PPD when I have good WUs, and about 6,000 PPD when I get a few P51xx WUs.
VMware is such an amazing memory manager... Each of my VMs has 640 MB allocated and yet all told, the 3 VMs have a private working set of just under 10MB in use, with no page faulting. I am an expert at most things VMware, but some of their accomplishments just plain baffle me. Their memory management is one, and I still get the giggles when I see VMotion work. VMotion is fairly simple once explained, and yet, it is perhaps the most astonishing technical achievement in the last decade for servers. What. Our threads are more off topic then off topic itself. That's what's good about them.

As far as the GPU, I'd like to get $220 out of it. IDK how much you know about the GX2's, but it's 2x 9800gtx's in one card. SLI on a stick pretty much. Each core will net from 3900PPD to 5629 PPD, depending on WU and Core.
Now for a the platform, IDK really know to be honest. If it's just folding, a low end dual core will keep it busy no issues. As far a power requirements, I've been running it on a 600w OCZ PSU, for the last year with no issues.
I should note that I took off the metal shroud that came on the card. It cause insanely high temps, so I had to do away with it. I did break the metal part once in removing, but it does not effect the GPU at all. (because it's not attached.)
TIM has been replaced with ICY Diamand paste, so it's good to go on that. Just needs a good home now.
Before I took the metal off:

(the ram sticks are on there to show how large the card is. It's really a massive GPU)

If your wanting a list made up for a CHEAP folder rig, I can make one up for you. A single core CPU could probably push the GX2, but you'd probably be maxing it out.
Maybe if nunya stumbles upon this he can tell us how much of the single P4 core is used by a folding instance. I know he knows.
I've only folder on dual cores and above. :\Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Hmmmm, got ahold of our one clan member, looks like his wife finally agreed to let him spend some money on a new system, but keep its price down some...
he's looking at one of those Thermaltake Spedo series cases, a Q9650 CPU, 4GB DDR3, good mobo, ATI Radeon 48xx series card, plenty of Drive space, hoping his current 600W PSU will be able to handle it, etc...
just as I got the final check for his donation build the other day too...
damn...
that really sucks, as that means shipping back some or all the parts, and the check, etc...
on the plus side I should be able to put the Q6600 in the Qpack case then...
might even be able to put the 4830 in that case too... but have to find out how many Amps the 4830 needs?
but means the SLI mobo & RAM might be up for sale soon.
now I have to figure out how I'm going to juggle my parts & stuff now...i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

My GPU should be making it's way to sharder for a thursday delivery. Then, whenever things are calmed down a little and he gets that puppy installed, look out! possibly double my daily output with that thing?

Hey, the more points, the better for the project. That's why we're all here doing this anyways, right?

I want you to challenge Engracio and Sharder for the that matter. Give us all you got!

Im only making completing a single project per day on one of my machines. Is this normal for a Core2Duo 2.4ghz machine?
-
April 7th, 2009, 09:02 PM #60
yes. Generally get a WU done every 20-22 hours. That's normal. If you OC, you can take that down to 18hours or so, maybe less.
