ughhh budget ... hrrmmm couple hundred?! I normally shell out around 200-250 for a new video card every couple of years and this one is now nearing 2 years. Itching to buy something new.

I have a friend that has tried to fold on his SLI lappy, and he keeps having driver problems. I'm sure it's possible, but heat is gonna be the killer factor I would think.
I'll send him a email and see if he ever got it worked out.

    Ok.. so his reply

"I gave up after downloading multiple different drivers. IF they worked for folding, they would crash randomly after a day, to sometimes just hours. Not to mention I was afraid of leaving burn marks in my desk"

    Have fun with that Biz.

@nemo, if you wanna spend the money, you'd be in awe with the GTX275. Just ask 2monsters, that's what he just got.

Thank you sir, it took me nearly six months of parts hunting to settle on that mobo. I wanted a good value for my mobo and not so much on the bells and whistles. I am VERY pleased with it.

I did like that EVGA, 250 bucks for the 275 does seem rather tempting. I just got paid so i know i have money to burn but i got bills to pay next week. Just paid off the last 500 bucks on my car too. Suckage.

Wouldnt mind the 280 but i dont do openbox without more info on why its open box.

Can anyone help me on this one? COD4, CODWAW, and UT3, all graphic intense games, crash my whole computer after a while of gameplay (freeze, flicker, restart). I know all my hardware is way past up to par, so how should i go about this? Drivers are updated, games are updated. I wanna play UT3 for a long time but after 2 1/2 maps of offline TDMs, it phaels.

Memtest is great, but i never trust one tool to accurately check anything.

I also recommend running the MMDT (Microsoft Memory Diagnostic Tool) Just to be sure that its good.

A good way to get a base line Idle temp for your CPU at least is to go into your BIOS and see what it is reading for your temp(s). Leave your machine on for 20-30 min just to be sure its not slowly rising and you now have a CPU baseline for idle. I would do a baseline Idle in OS as well if your so inclined.

Anyone here using an Audigy or X-fi card in Win7 Beta?

if so, do you use specific drivers or just use the Vista drivers?

which leads me to the other Win7 driver question, is it "ok" to use Vista drivers for Win7 if I can't find specific Win7 drivers for hardware? like at a Mobo manufacturers site? or would/should I use drivers straight from the chipset manufacturers site? (in this case, a P31 chipset on an MSI board, latest drivers are for Vista, but no mention of win7, don't know if Intel has any Win7 drivers for the chipset, haven't looked yet)

I haven't found any drivers that couldn't be used with Win 7. If there is no specified Win 7 download, download the Vista drivers. That's what I did, and I read a bunch of other posts of people doing the same.

    time for me.

Hey Karma, since You've read up some on the IC Diamond stuff, whats the best way to apply it, I read somewhere its not recommended to trowel the stuff like some do. just put a dab on the CPU apply heatsink & let it spread out evenly from pressure.

just wondering, because with AS Ceramique for heatsinks like the AC Freezers & others I usually try to apply a very thin layer on the Heatsink, troweling a very thin semi transparent layer almost (a hair thicker on outer edges of heatsink/cpu contact area), and then a dab on the CPU and apply the heatsink, just to ensure the entire surface has some paste all around, just in case some of the outer edges don't get some paste spread to it with the HSF pushing down on it. especially on HSF's for AMD chips using the stock clips, that have the bar through the middle pushing down, where as I would imagine Intel chips being a little more even pressure at all four points/"corners" of the CPU/HSF.

but figured I'd ask someone who's read more on it than I have, before I start messing with the stuff.

reason I'm also asking is I forgot to mention it came today, the tube is actually bigger than my tube of AS Ceramique not bad for the price then.

FrozenCPU had the item shipping with in 45 minutes of ordering and even got delivered on a Saturday via UPS...

now if only these guys could drop the prices a tad on some items and start carrying a good selection of hardware components, I'd be buying from them far more often than even newegg.

Jeeez I dont know about the rest of you dudes but its starting to get warm again already

My room went from a nice 69F by my bed and 75F next to my computer to 82F by my bed and 91F by my computer.

My graphics card is busy folding overclocked and it used to run no higher than 57C at 60% fan speed its now at 63C (and rising) at 100% fan speed!

Processor is happy at 55C (core 0) and 47C (core 2).

Ive had to turn up all my fans in my 900 case to high and ive stuck a floor fan at the side and front.

The only problem is the heat is going to get worse......

I think we should have a watercooling kit at the next giveaway to keep us folding throughout the summer.

@Shy- Use a 5mm dot right in the middle of the chip. No spreading or anything. That's what the ICD rep said during the forum test. I've applied it to 3 CPU's now with that method, and I've never had to do a reset.
Now the one thing I found with that stuff is it's pretty tough to get out of the tube. If you keep it in your pocket for half hour or so, let it "pre heat" a little, it comes out much better.

@Aaron- Although water cooling is nice, it's still never gonna get any colder then your ambient room temp. So if your room is burning hot, so will everything on water.
But I totally understand what your saying. My room gets SSSOOOOOOoooooooooo hot during the summer, it's almost unbearable to be in here. AC helps some though.
If things get to bad, see if you can pick up a window unit for cheap. That will make all the difference.

Ok I officially feel like an IDIOT. Fired up the A/C last night to cool the house off and make sure it was good to go for the up coming season. for some reason the compressor kept kicking out, Fired it up today and it seemed to be working, then it started sounding funny. so I went outside to have a look. Found the problem real quick like. I forgot to take the cover off of it. (its to big to be taking out of the window so I wrap it to stop the winter winds. I block the inside with styrofoam sheathing for insulation.)

you guys are lucky then (consistent ambient temps), we had nearly 85-90F temps the other day & then the next were more closer to 40's & 50's... and its been closer to 50's or so for most of today (45F right now as I type this), its good for the PC's, cooler temps in the house as a result, but the massive temp difference in 24 hours is insane (but then again typical Minnesota weather, especially for spring)

    @KK, 5mm ?

damn, thats more than I usually use, if I'm lucky its maybe 4mm, but usually closer to 3mm (not including the spread on the HSF) for size of dab of paste.
