I have been trying to post for the last couple hours. Unfortunately I'm on My Nephews computer, and had to wait for Firefox to open. I think He had about every add-on in existence for Firefox
Well.... not all of them, but good Lord it was a bunch of them. On top of that add in all the BS Services, and Start up items.
Running pretty well now, I could do more but why bother when They will have it slowed to a crawl in no time. I gotta give him credit for the absence of Viruses and the low number of adware items. Now I just have to beat the idea of not having crap load on start up into his head. (like that will happen.) I did add one service though. anybody want to guess what that might have been?

1/3 of the herd down waiting to report and get new work.

Looks like they haven't been able to identify the problem and get it fixed. Hoping they figure it out before more of the herd goes down.
I've been noticing a problem with the servers since late yesterday.

Have you thought about imaging it after a rebuild - that way, when he next buggers it up (as he invariably will) you can just wipe the drive and dump the image back on again....
That's one of the things I do... It also works as a backup strategy - as the software I use can be set to run a schedule (I use a weekly backup, generally early doors on a weekend morning) and then, if/as/when they accidentally delete something.........

+1....!!

In fact, I just rebuilt a friends PC with XP Pro (after doing an image/backup first) and re-installed a bunch of his apps. I've got to finish it off, and that's when I'll put F@H on it - didn't get time to do that last night, he didn't get home until about 5-ish and dinner was due at 19:30...
I've got a schedule to run a backup job every Sunday, that goes to a separate disk, and it will mean that he is covered in the event of a drive failure or a naasty virus that infects the System Restore files..... It will keep up to 4 images, so that he can go back up to a month ago (and longer if he doesn't have the machine on when it is due to run an image) in the event of a file corruption/deletion or the above...I've seen the light... @Net
Really appreciate the advice of all for the build, but just want to throw this out as an option for a complete system build. We all try to reccommend the cheapest, most cost conscious system. Not everyone has a high budget.
An i7 rig, with multiple high power gpu's. Some will say wait for the i5,i3 or even i9, but I know I am one of the ones who wants the best and wants it now and has the budget to build it and build another later. If this is your case also, let us know.
Some advantages to this are, latest parts ( hopefully will last longer in product lifecycle ), faster system and as I do, can crunch and use it for anything with a very little drop in ppd.
I am in no way trying to talk you into this as it will be rather costly, just trying to point out an option for you. Some will say you can do it cheaper and build multiple rigs, but I for one don't have the time to tend to multiple rigs so I have one rather powerful one.

Lots of rain here, but it came down fast. Couple Tornado touch downs in the area, doesn't seem to be anything major yet. The Storm hasn't let up though so People in its path could get walloped.
My Brother in laws wife is Stable now, but they could not do the valve replacement she needed. So thats good and Bad news.
The Pictures are from the ditch in front of my house where I park the Truck. I'll Have to post one when it empties.Last edited by nunyadam; August 19th, 2009 at 04:40 PM.
