Good F@H vid cards and PPD

I'm in dire need of a new vid card and I'm curious about PPD and vid cards out there. The Nvidia 9800 GX2 is discontinued albeit still available by some retailers for about $200.00 So, for the best PPD what would you do?

    Nvidia 9800 GX2
    Radeon 4890
    Nvidia GTX 275

All these cards are around $200. Even though the ATI 5000 series comes out tomorrow there aren't any tests done to get their max ppd while folding which is why there is no 5850 listed in my list......yet So, what would you do if you were me?

Hmm.. well the GX2 puts out about 4-5k per core, or 9k-10k combined.
The 4890 I heard is still floating around under 5kPPD.
The 275 will do 7k-9k, but uses less power while doing it compared to the GX2.

(and tbh, I'd be shocked if the 58xx series got anything more then 6kPPD.)

Just a thought. Is there anywhere that lists the cards and their estimated PPD? Think we can get a lil chart with someone of the more experienced folders adding input to fill in the blanks. Might help some of the newer folders, myself included find suitable replacements that give decent PPD for the buck.

The 275/285 seem to be beating the 295 on that chart? Wonder if the 295 is per core, and you double that for the true ppd?

That's probably per core. I would think you'd take that number x2.

I actually came across that chart but it's not real current....back from March before ATI stuff was really optimized. We'll see what prices do the next few days with the 5000 series coming out from ATI. Maybe I'll compile and updated version of the chart. Hmmmm. Oh and Karma, I went with a Coolermaster Hyper 212 HSF

back ina bit. time for some food.

F@H forums has a few threads on that, one or two in each of the appropriate sections for ATI and Nvidia Folding.

You just cant't beat the GTX 275, it's actually the remodeled 9800 GTX+ and I am getting 9-10K PPD on ONE card in my new build.

    Either way, Have fun!

    9800gtx+ = GTS 250, not the GTX275.

    GTX 275/285/295 are revised/revamped GTX 260/280 cores. GT200 core.

You are exactly right. My confusion is that i thought I had bought the 275 but got a 250, read up on it and learned about the 9800 offspring then forgot the original numbers. For $119 it's hard to beat the GTS 250,, New topic. Was it you that wanted the extra cooler ( the big one ) I have shipped extra parts all over the world and now I have the cooler boxed ( wrapped carefully in original carton but can't remember for sure if it was you.

Let me know and thanks for correcting my mistake.

    In the box,

Can you send me your address again ( and the name ) Mat? Do you realize I get over 300 business mails per day, not counting 90 TechIMO on a good day,,,,

Wife had not sent them because she lost the piece of paper I printed out but had not been back in that vehicle. We have too many trucks and cars,,,

Enjoy, it comes with everything, I was pleasantly surprised. I am struggling today with buying most of a machine from New Egg or zipzoomfly.com and adding the GPU or building from scratch. I am anxious to get another good folfer like the first one. ( suspiciously high points on some days,,,)

Thanks and please accept my apology for the delay.

Thanks all for the input. I think what I'm going to do is get a GTX 275....Now I'm just trying to see when the availability is going to be on the 5000 series cards from ATI in hopes that it'll drive the prices down of Nividia's cards
