Whooaa Shy you trying to sneak this one by us?
Happy B-day man. It's not a good time to sit and think about what you don't have. Instead try to count your blessings.
(trust me, there are a bunch of people in the same spot as you, or far far worse.) |

what a fucking joke, downloaded the latest version of Skype to install, released Oct 12th, and the damn thing doesn't want to run on Windows 7 64bit, granted its the RC release, but still, for as much as Skype Advertises and brags about this and that, you think they'd be on top of things. with Win7 releasing in a week or two after this current version, and RC being out for several months prior, as well as the RTM version being released a good month or so before...
get to the login screen, type in my old login, and it acts like its trying to connect, then the window closes and freezes/hard locks the entire system, I've had to do 4 reboots in the last half hour because of this, I tried in XP SP3, & SP2 Compatibility mode, as well as Vista SP2 compatibility, the latter gets me back to the login but does the same thing, the XP modes simply load the programs process and no interfaces or anything...
I searched Skypes site and to be honest their so called "forums" is a joke, as is search for answers for problems.
though the lame thing is if I log in on their website, I can access my account almost instantly, but from the client software it locks up my system.
I installed XP mode for Win7, but I have no icon to click on for it, there is something called Powershell installed in one of the folders, has several versions listed, not sure if that the so called XP mode, but their all Command line interfaces.
so until I can get this figured out, I won't be on skype to converse with anyone any time soon. as it is I have 2 members from my gaming clan wanting me to get on Skype also.
uninstalled Skype for now, and wouldn't you know it, an IE window opens, with the usual, "sorry your leaving us" BS, "we're here to help" so whats below that message, hotlinks to all the "great" features of Skype, as well as the download link, WTF YOU MORONS I JUST FREAKIN UNINSTALLED IT, WHY THE F*** WOULD I BE WANTING TO DOWNLOAD AGAIN?
yet in very small text next to the Download option, is the "help" hot link...
just that page alone shows What skype has become, I remember when it used to actually be helpful and not always cramming their ads in your face, now it seems all their concerned with is getting as many people onboard as possible...
sorry, but right now I'm a little pissed with Skype not working as it should...
has me thinking of putting together a cheap MiniITX system now to just run that or similar programs on, running XP or something...
problem is money is too tight right now to do such a thing. I have 2 PC's that could work, but one, the damn mATX PSU isn't powerful enough to even boot the damn system, and to make things worse its an Athlon XP 1500+ PC with onboard everything. damn POS PC Chips boards. the other system is a smaller SFF desktop Pentium 3 850MHz PC missing a slim optical drive (have one of those), and the power connector (laptop type) is loose and doesn't connect, add in I need at least a 90W AC adapter to work with it... don't have any other PC's with enough RAM or small enough in Size to run XP or a decent version of Linux to use for this. (that can be put in the same room, I have the 2nd PC running but thats in the livingroom)

Not sure what the issue is Shy, but skype works fine for me on the RC of 7.
I just had to do a fresh install not long ago, and downloaded the very same version you have. I had no problems with it. |

the latest version of Skype was Oct 12 as I mentioned, with the RTM version of 7 essentially the same as the Retail release, as well as very little difference between RC and Retail, why Skype doesn't better support Windows 7 is anyones guess, its not even listed under supported OS's when you download it, only XP and Vista.
am going to try to run a VM later, or run it in Virtual PC, but I also don't want to have to F*ck around with my mic and sound settings since I have it set up the way I want it in 7 currently with no problems. |
