I must be fighting something, slept pretty much all day yesterday. I feel fine, but still tired. Got out of bed a couple hours ago, and I'm ready to go climb back in it now.

Nice... Didn't think they would put a 250 for physx...
It would be good for those who cannot have multi card setups.... Im sure folding would be possible...... (but wouldn't shader difference's decrease PPD)?

it could, but a 9800GTX (bit less than a 250) should net at least 5 grand, and a 275 is at least 6-8 grand, so even a slight loss, should get you at least 10K if not a bit more, unless the 275 defaulted to a 250's output...
either way it should be out a 285 for PPD if you can use the extra GPU.
mainly intended for boards with 2 or 3 PCIE slots for Dual or 3-Way SLI to use a 3rd or 4th GPU for PhysX I think, also I suspect it has something to do with Batman Arkham Asylum, as I remember in the Demo, they recommend at least a GTX 260 or 275 for GPU and a GTS 250 for PhysX processing in the options, otherwise its just a single GPU (some option in the menu allows you to select that or something), and with the Graphics on the card... would of been better had the card been released with the game, but better late than never.
But still, imagine running 3 or 4 of those cards, if you can use the 250 on it for Folding?
still dependent on the cards pricing but might be a better deal than a 295. at least till GT300's come out, or until the GPU client finally gets optimized for ATI cards... I doubt that will happen before GT300 though.

well, I'll be damned, that loud sound in the 2nd PC, was the CPU cooler, the 92mm on the thermaltake heatpipe cooler is whats making the loud sound... I took the panels of the PC off to listen closer, anticipating installing the 120mm Enermax Enlobal fan, but as I listened it sounded more like from the rear of the case, was hoping it wasn't the OCZ ModXStream 500W, otherwise I'd really not be able to do much to fix it with out some PSU modifications.
I unplugged the front intake Coolermaster and no change, plugged back in, and proceeded to unplug the CPU fan, and sure enough it was instantly quiet, plugged back in and it was loud again, found the culprit...
sooooooo, now off to find a good CPU cooler to put on the board, something with a quiet fan, but that will fit in the case, and won't take up too much real estate around the socket, things already tight in there....
any idea for Socket 775? and no on the AC Freezer 7 Pro, its a bit too big, need something a bit smaller, but also good for OCing the CPU, until I can get that thing I won't be able to OC the CPU any.
on the plus side I was able to install the 2 1GB DDR2 800's in the system, not before having to totally remove the 9800GTX to get at the RAM DIMM tabs but the system is running in Dual channel now, with same amount of RAM, so hopefully a small bump in speed.
as to the 80GB SATA HDD I was to install in it, well looks like that might go towards a 3rd SFF PC after all, I totally forgot the only SATA ports available are under the GPU and can't access them... so short of installing a PCI SATA card, no more HDD's to be added to this PC.
so looks like I'll have to back up a ton of data off the drives onto the space I have on my gaming rig to clear off space on the 2nd PC...
I do have the USB 2.0 Thermaltake External Drive kit to mount the drive in, but bit of a hassle right now and no room to place it anywhere or plug in... the drives on the Game PC are already set up and would be faster transfer speeds over the network too, so would just be faster all around.
looking online in a while to order one here though. |
