[F@H SPAM 11/1/09]New month . . . new thread . . . new change-up!
Well . . . Gabriel is back on line, for how long I don't know. I've been fighting the 0x000000C2 error hitting right at the F8 during the install or repair. I've changed the RAM, HDD, CD-ROM, Keyboard, SATA cable, IDE cable, video card, and can't get past the 0x000000C2. Only things left to change out are the MoBo (in the shop waiting for final payment), CPU (in closet waiting for MoBo and RAM), PSU, and case.
Anyway, after about a dozen attempts today, it surprised me and took a clean install.
So, Gabriel is now crunching under someone else's name . . . as is Austin and Zeus. I think ya'll will figure out who pretty quick.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that in 2 months time . . . you're going to need a million points to be in the top 21. And one month after that . . . you'll need over a million to be in the top 24.
Once that plan is complete . . . it'll be time to see maybe 3 or 4 more in the 10M club.
The questions are . . . Will e-man and Vern join me in increasing these numbers? Or . . . will the next contest put a kink in the plan?
Stay tuned and let's watch the numbers climb!

No go on this side buddy, still sputtering around on the same engine minus 2 since the beginning of the year.

They will crunch (cow) however as soon as they come home.

Installing WinXP on a computer for a nephew. He was supposed to come over and do it himself never has shown up, but has called to see if I have it done.
At this point i'm tired of it sitting here.

Stoooppid coworkers ... i swear ...
How hard is it to trouble shoot a printer issue. THREE FREAKING WEEKS LATER, i fix it in 45 minutes.

If it took you 45 minutes I would guess that it is above there Computer Tech knowledge level. We often forget that what is simple common knowledge for us may as well be Black magic, or Voodoo to them.
I am not anywhere near being a computer Tech, yet what i know is way over the heads of most people I Know and work with. Would I want them to fix my computer? No. Save my life? Yes, that they know how to do.

So it is Voodoo and Black Magic, I thought so. I need an Exorcist for mine.

Printers can be often be a bit tricky...........
Sometimes you have to turn them off and back on again.....and sometimes you have to put paper in.....

Almost bought it today, but I saw SW:Force Unleashed on the shelf, and didn't even know it was released for PC yet, so grabbed that and a $10 copy of UT3.
in another 2 weeks to a month I should be buying Borderlands though... or when I get my cash from my coworker for the replacement PSU (If thats this weekend or next, not sure)i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

It must be that time of the month. Another Nephew showed up needing me to work ona computer. This one could be easy if i can remember what the password is, otherwise it will be a case of drop in the disk and start fresh.
I love how they expect me to remember everything. He called and said something like " remember that Computer you gave me a couple months ago?" (more like a year ago.)
To which i said "Uhm no not really."
Now that i see it I remember it, the Admin Password? not off hand, but i have a couple good guesses.

Nunya, don't you have/use a 'standard' password on the machines you build..? Or, as an alternative, create an additional account (when you build it) so that you have two options...?!?
On a separate, and on thread-topic, note... I notice that we've dropped back down to around 250k PPD that we were on before the competition - which is about 50k PPD below the 300k-ish PPD what we were getting only a couple of weeks ago....
Another separate note - this time with nothing to do with the thread, I've been confirmed that the "week or two" position I've got at the moment (at the British [head of Europe] offices of an American bank) has been extended to "at least" the 4th of December... Seems that whatever is wrong with the guy I'm covering for is a longer term thing than they'd originally planned, as that means that he's been signed off for 7 weeks by that time - and the guy I report to doesn't expect that the guy will return straight back to full time whenever he does eventually manage to go back to work... Still, it works out quite well for my bank balance as it pays at about 150% of the driving work I was doing for the last month or two...

The drop in points is probably a result of the contest ending. On a side note, I discovered 5 of my crunchers waiting to be logged in after a restart. I suspect it's M$ updates causing the problem and that I'll find more down in the morning. (It seems to be spread out over a 2-3 night process.)
With any luck, I'll pick up the MoBo this week and then will only need the RAM to upgrade Gabriel. I'm also thinking about selling my vacation time again this year for another upgrade . . . just need to find out if the company will allow me to do that again. I haven't taken any sick leave in the 3 years I've worked for the company and I've only taken 3 days vacation. The General Manager is the only other one that has done better . . . but not by much.

Just a thought/idea I'm curious about, but does anyone know much about the card/tag type sucurity passes that control door access schtuffs...?
I've been discussing it with the guy I report to, and he's interested in getting it for the two doors for the server room.... If anyone knows what I'm talking about and/or where to get the systems from, and/or how much it would cost.........well you know where to get hold of me....

Yes, a little bit, as it is a bank, they already have access to the technology. Exact same as a MAC/ATM/Cash Point machine for the cards and readers. When I worked with induction furnaces, I kept wiping out my cards. I got tired of paying the replacement fees, so I made a dummy card with the programming machine, if I wiped the card, I reloaded it with the data from the dummy. I used the machine for programming the door cards.
Where to get them in the UK, no clue. You may want to see if the place that does you cash machines can help or see where a local hotel with the door systems gets theirs. A better idea is biometrics, no need to have the card all the time. I'll chat with you on IM's later.
Same thing here, just glad I was on days shift and checked them before I left for work, only lost a few hours.
