Happy Nude Year to all.
Sky, have been getting all my bonus points. The dedicated folder is showing 31,400 ppd with a probable bonus of 40K. HFN shows 200kppd at the moment. I have been trying to oc all the rigs. With Karma getting his i7 up and oc'd, he is giving me some good data, same mobo as 2 of mine and same batch cpu that is in my dedicated folding rig. Have 2 over 4GHz and 2 at 3.8GHz stable.
I tried to buy another set up off another forum but the guy backed out. Will be getting a few more in the new year, and a few more when the tax check comes in. These do seem to be nicer to the electric bill than gpu folding points/watt wise. Haven't done any calculations yet though.

Flying JJ... Yeh, I ended up deleting my post. After a little investigation, it appears that my folding VM hung for a few hours on the last night, just long enough to take me out of bonus. I have had two instances now that I have ended up in a hung state--CPUs still at 100% on all cores, but no further progress being made on the WU.
As for the i7, I continue to be amazed, quite a feat of engineering. I agree, my rig never ran hot when I was GPU folding, but now, going CPU only... it seems like my system is idle. The fans are all nearly silent, the system is quite responsive even with the folder at "normal" priority. I suspect my current draws are much lower. And all the while I am pounding out twice the points that I was when I had the GPU max'ed out.
I run my i7 920 at the stock 2.67 GHz. The fan barely moves and still, I can reach down and touch the base plate of the heat sink and it feels room temperature. All the cores are always steady at 55 degrees C, which leads me to believe I could get away with quite a bit of OCing if I had a clue what I was doing.| i7 920 | -bigadv SMP on linux VM | ATI 4850 GPU |

I can tell you that an oc will give a bunch more points. I am working on an oc/frame time chart now. Stock vs. 4.0 is about 4k ppd jump. It will also help you to get the WU done faster --> more bonus/points/WU's.
Stock +/- 36:02 min/frame (%) in 2.5 days, 30226 bonus for 22231 ppd
3.5 +/- 35:00 min/ frame in 2.43 days, 31041 bonus for 23223 ppd
4.0 +/- 32:21 min/ frame in 2.25 days, 33308 bonus for 26134 ppd
these use my averages for WU's I have done. I ran them through the bonus points calculator. The actual points vary because of up and download times and other factors with the reporting when it was issued/received. Interesting to say though the 4.0 oc does have some frames at 28 min. The 3.5 seems to be a good middle of the road for increasing ppd but not to a high oc. 3,5 should be easy for you if you have a DO-i7. Maybe even on stock voltages.

Happy New Year Crew!
Well things have slowed down considerably for me at work. What started out to be a slow year turned out to be me working 7 days a week from May to December. The next season looks promising as well. I'm looking at about an 8 week vacation and I will be back to the grind.
I started my schooling to become a certified civil engineer.
This kind of sums up why I have not been on so much.
So this i7 thing looks very promising. Think I'm gonna start working on a build.

It is from what I see from doing it. Less power consumed and more ppd. You need help with a dedicated folder let me know. I have been looking for cheap but yet very good ones. I will put together my build list when I get figured out what gets the best bang for the buck, quality parts being a top concern. Just remember you need at least 6GB ram ( 4.8 GB MINIMUM dedicated to the VM ) 12 GB total would be better ( 6-8 Gb to the VM ).

Happy New Year to the Team!
Woke up (on the couch) burping Grand Marnier tinged with a nice smoky aftertaste from a Vintage 92 Dunhill Cabreras. We grilled fresh salmon in 19 degrees out on the deck and split a nice bottle of White Zin. Candles were so nice for dinner we lit the whole place and watched 2012 with our post midnight activities. Good-bye 2009!
Starting to look at my i7 build list so will be watching with interest what you guys come up with. VMWare will be free from my buds at EMC so it's a start. Want to balance these monster cases with just enough room for good GPU's.
2010 will start for me when we get out of this current deep freeze. Will never top the freezing mark for the next 15 days. Brrr. Horses in at night, out during the day so there goes 3 hours of barn time daily.
Pround to be part of TechIMO.

Happy New Year's to one and all!

Well, the VA, in their infinite stupidity, denied my initial CUE (Clear and Unmistakable Error) claim.
(To be truthful, that was expected.)
That means we now go to the hearing phase. This will have to wait a couple of months, until my Service Officer returns from Afghanistan. He's already been informed and I'm waiting for additional information from him.
I've already informed my congressman that the VA wants to continue playing their games.
In the meantime, I also asked an Old friend to stir the pot at the VA in D.C. He has promised to do what he can . . . so now it's time to see how much trouble he can get me into.
I've also decided to set up a blog on my 23 year fight with the VA, in order to attack the VA and keep people informed of the crap the VA likes to pull. For those who want to follow, comment, or learn a bit about my history and the fight, you can go to My 23 year fight with the VA.
I've completed the initial history and I will continue to post the fight info over the next few days.
Looks like my Super Computer has been put on hold for at least 3 months while I continue the fight.

Damned VA,,
Aaaw Harder,
I am so damned sorry, and it's worth nothing but, I'm mad for you. This is incredible and an example of what is wrong withe the whole damned system.
I read the other day of the alarming number of returning Iraq & Afghanistan injured military are ending up homeless! Shouldn't happen in the US.
My thoughts are with you. If there is Anything i can do please let me know.
Lovely way to start the new year,,,,

Sorry to Hear that, hopefully things will get turned around with the next phase.
on the upside, if and when things turn around, by the time it clears the newer Fermi based Tesla's and Geforce cards should be out, either picking up more of the older ones for less price or some of the newer more powerful cards/chips.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Actually, the VMware is free to everyone, as you'll want to use the free VMware Player for folding. The newer release of player supports presenting all 8 cores of an i7 to a single VM, and I do not think this is supported yet in Workstation 7. You really need to run 7 or 8 cores or you just can't make the bonuses.
I have run folders on Player, Workstation, ESX, ESXi, and server over the years, and when it comes right down to it, Player is still the way to go for VM folding far anyone that doesn't already run ESXi. Workstation adds some nice features, as I often used the "team" functionality of VMware and the Unity windowing... But now I run only a single instance of a VM, so Workstation no longer provides any feature benefits over Player. And if anything, the bulk of Workstation just takes up a few more cycles.| i7 920 | -bigadv SMP on linux VM | ATI 4850 GPU |

Sorry to butt in with this, probably should post this query in the GPU section, but need to ask, and thought maybe some of the older team members might know off hand...
looking at buying a cheap AGP Radeon 2600 Card for someone, they only run Windows 2000 Professional Though...
(sending them my old XP 3000+ internals, and though it has a 9700 Pro in that, would like to move them up to something more recent and powerful for video card, but they're a dedicated Windows 2000 user, and would hate to have to force them up to XP to use the card. Also would like to keep the 9700 Pro for my "Collection" of old school top end cards
)
but only drivers I can find for 2600's is XP or newer, any idea if its even possible to run said card on Windows 2000? since XP is based off of 2000, would it be possible to run the XP drivers in 2000 (like what can be done for some Windows Vista drivers in Windows 7?)
Looks like only Radeon X800/850 cards were last for 2000 Drivers.
Looking at the Omega Drivers for ATI cards on OmegaDrivers Site, seems to list XP/2000 for driver version that supports the 2600 Series, but no mention specifically for Win2K.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Hate to say it, but there is not much more to say. Things just never change.

I guess the rest of the country will feel how it is dealing with VA sooner or later. I HOPE this is the CHANGE they wanted.
There is always, Hang in there Bud (sharder8) what is a few more months.

Well. Aaron has given me a couple of pointers for my next upgrade/s, so I just need to get the $ta$h organised and used as funds...
Torn between a 295 "co-op" card (that would entail waiting a few more weeks) or getting a 275 and having the extra fund$ remaining to get a more powerful PSU to keep everything running nicely... From what Aaron said, the 295 "co-op" would kick 275 @rse, so it might be that I wait......

Make sure the valve cover isn't slightly warped too - I changed gaskets 3 times before realizing. At least on my 1988 it's aluminum, not sure yours had the same issue in your year.
