New Fermi cards are named.
From TomsHardware:
Now, if they will just post the price, and actually make them available, we'll be in business.Nvidia Gives Fermi GF100 Official GPU Names

GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 will be the names of the first two GPUs shipped based on our new GF100 chip!"They say technology slows down for no one. I know it outruns my wallet. I figure its because my wallet isn't light enough yet.

I guess they are saving the 300 name for the OEM cards.....

Now that my cow is back online, no thanks to a power outage frying my mobo, it's time to sell off my two GTX 260's and look at a single 480/470. Probably 470 if I can enable the rest of the shaders on it. =)

The yields are still pretty low. I wonder how that will affect the prices.

$350-360 on Newegg for the 470's, $500 ish for the the 480's, meanwhile over at ZipZoomFly, last week they had preorders for the 470's, putting the price at about $100 over what Newegg is asking...
the thing I've noticed about the Fermi cards is how much they remind me of the G80's when they came out, same hype about revolutionizing the gaming card scene, heck they even share the 320-bit Memory bus from the original 8800GTS cards LOL...
but wonder how long it'll be before we see the full 512 SP 480's, and what the pricing will be for current 480's will be.
kind of like when the GTX 260 216SP models came on to the scene pushing the 192SP 260's down in pricing, if something similar will happen.
which is why right now, the sweet spot for the fermi cards is the 470, since its not gimped like the 480 is with number of SP's being reduced, and at a reasonable pricing range too.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Fermi is, in a way, a revolutionary product. It's the next step in moving away from the traditional GPU and CPU centric applications to more general purpose GPU programs. I work on developing massively parallel processor architectures, and it is a very interesting field that's full of potential.
The field is in its infancy, and Fermi is a prime examples of this with the problems that it exhibits. They need to get their yields up (which is a consequence of the current TSMC process), and they need to reduce power consumption (which can also be fixed in small part when they move to a different process).http://www.tekshome.com

no I agree 100%, just saying with some of the ways with the new Fermi cards, reminds me of the G80's a few years ago, they were out for a year or less before we saw the G92 revisions, which were more powerful, less heat, power required, etc.
and with current cards having that 320-bit bus on them, it always reminds me of the G80's. Which is one of the reasons Why I'm still hesitant on jumping on a 470 when i find one.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green
