GTS 250 issue,,or not?
My GTS 250 was cruising along at 6K PPD but after completing the last wor unit I watched on FahMon as it loaded another. It was a 450 point Gromacs V2gromacs and PPD dropped off to 1117 PPD and has stayed there.
This is a Vista Home Premium rig that I built, Cooler Master case, Intel E2160 duo CPU's @1.80 GHZ. 4GB OZR mem, 500GB internal HD, USB 1TB ( mirrored ) hanging off a front USB port. FoxConn mobo ( Napa model ),1000 Watt PSU (Rosewill )
Temps are cool, 37C, fan is at 50%. I was using EVGA Precision and experimenting with small increments of OC, testing each change when I noticedd that though core setting was at 738, graph shows it a 300. I can move the speed on the core either way with the sliders and the digital section reflects the change but the graph section stays at 301.
I have not rebooted or, stopped and restarted running F@H as a service.
Anyone seen this or have any ideas? Can't be losing 5K PPD a day,,,,
Thanks,,

If the core is running at 300 it means that the card is idle and is in a low power mode.... Which means F@H is probably not running properly...
Also for folding purposes your want the shaders overclocked, it is normaly best to unlink then, underclock the core a little (say 100mhz or so) then overclock the shaders, i think NLM got them to 1900Mhz before it started to throw a fit....
Funny thing is NLM also has a GTS250 and has constant problems with his....
I guess this is the reason you only did 13k PPD yesterday as your 295 is going at it alone?I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz/6GB//GTX480 SLI/M4 64 GB + 1.5 TB + 2x 640 GB/Corsair TX950/ASUS blu-ray/ASUS P6X58D-E + X-Fi /LC PCK62

don't know why so many are having problems with these GTS 250's, their only 2 revisions newer than the 9800GTX I run, and though I don't have mine OC'd, though been thinking about doing that lately, I never seem to have any troubles with it, other than the fact it runs hotter than my GTX 285.
networker as far as the Logmein thing goes, Until I get the Mini ITX system working with Windows XP, I won't be able to use Skype, I installed it on my main rig the other day, and the dang thing was throwing a fit again, tried the version that was working before, and doesn't want to log in, tried the latest new version, and still have the same problems as before, where logging in Hard locks the entire PC...
meanwhile going to the Skype Website I have no trouble logging into my account.
so that means I'll probably need to make room on my desktop to fit the Mini ITX PC, and run that with XP and Skype that I know works on XP... I have no clue as to why Skype is giving me so much trouble with Windows 7, but it does, and quite frankly pisses me off.
I do however have a Teamspeak Server that I run, small 20 person one, so I could use that as VoIP with Log Me in if need be.
But won't be able to take a look until end of the week, got my hands full ATM with making another stupid weapons mod to shut the naysayers freaking mouths up, from my gaming clan, well the leaders anyways, that think their server is tough enough and can handle a full 64 player server, despite the fact the mod I made, even lags down a 1 player LAN server, from 100+fps to single digit frame rates when a lot is going on... apparently they think they can prove me wrong... so am going to really stick it to them with this custom version, incorporate as much over the top weaponry and lag inducing effects as possible LOL...
then tell them I told them so when their server keeps crashing all the time, due to it and the video card not able to cope with the crappy graphics info processing and crappy network code of the game to begin with...
I know its vindictive, but to the bastards that have gone out of their way to make me out to be the cause of the Clans "politics" issues and just plain shitty management, they deserve it.
(Latest issues is the fact I'm no longer officially part of the group, and my Mod and my Servers have drawn too many of the members away from the Clans main servers, that were slow traffic to begin with, their shelling out between $75-150 a month for, versus my $32 a month for 2 16player servers, so they wanted to host my mod on their server to gain people back, and make it worth paying money for the over paid server, I told them no, and now I'm a cause or reason for their problems again... so after some debate I gave them permission to use one of the older versions of my mod, and so they set that up yesterday, unlocked, people with out the files will get instant kicks and message about running hacks when their not, and its enabled for 64 players, when even a 16 player Purely CPU Only Based Slot type server, with pings times less than half of their server, lags like a mutha with only 10-12 people in it)
anyways, back on topic.
Aaron nailed it on the head though, your card is running in its lowest Power state, purely 2D mode if its at 300Mhz, its the same problems the one guys KevinsHope was having with his GTX 285 running slower than it should be when running games and the like.
I think he started having issues as well once he started Overclocking beyond a certain point as well.Last edited by ShyguyXPC; June 16th, 2010 at 04:40 PM.

Yeah, but at one point the 295 was getting 17K by itself!
If the card was indeed idle would the processor be running at 99%?
On the same note but looking at EVGA Precision tools, I no longer get the "passed all clock tests,OK to Apply."
Should I try a total reboot or, do a power down? Think it would reset the GPU?
I will try your tips too, thanks. NLM is a night owl like me but he may already be in the bed.
Later, maybe earlier tomorrow,, I can come home to the house around 3.

Sounds like you are having fun with work, "including as much over the top weaponry to guarantee lags" That's hilarious.
So what did KevinsHope do to rectify the issue after he OC'd a little? I did not move the slider much as all. I actually found that it ran better at some lower spots on the bar. I will try unsyncing the core clock from the sshader and play around in increments, It's runningg at 39 CCC temp right now too, it had bounced off 60 gegrees at 6117K, the most stable rating I saw
I'll let you get back to ladding 1 player LAN games,,,

not sure, I think he lowered the GPU overclock to near stock speeds, or closer to what I had for my stock factory OC speeds.
and it resolved its self I think.
though he's still having issues with Precision not letting him OC properly, and what not, he's got another thread about Riva tuner and Precision compatibility issues.
I don't think he ever got it actually fixed per say, just dropped the OC and it fixed itself some what.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Net, this is exactly the same issue as I'm having with my 250, all I've found that works is to restart the machine, at which point it will work properly for around another week before it drops back down again... Check my EOC stats for OCn to see what I mean about that... Even reverting the settings in Precision didn't help anything, but as soon as I restarted, BOOM, back to 5~6k PPD...

Yes, looks like it. i rebooted and Boom, it was back. Where is the folder where you can watch the percentage completed, new W/U's loading, files sent successfully with the current PPD down in the Lower RH corner? When I go into All Programs and scroll down to Folding at Home GPU I get two choices, ( three counting EVGA Precision ) but the folding mulicolor icon and second, work and data files, expert only. I thought that is where I got that program before.
Fold well my friend!

You're looking for FahMon, which (IIRC) would be something along the lines of "C:\Program Files\FahMon\FahMon.exe" as the file name. I personally will either add it to the Startup folder ("C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Start Menu\All Programs\Startup" from memory, for XP) or set it to start at login - which can be done within the application, as I seem to recall..
Personally, I now use HFM to monitor schtuffs, as it can calculate bonus points (for SMP Folding) in addition to the regular (non-SMP) points, you can create one single config file and migrate one configuration to be used on all clients....which is great for me, as I monitor all of my clients from any of the machines (in my W/LAN) that I use, without having to remember and type out the route to each client....and if I change one client, it will also replicate the change on one config to amend all other instances on the next time the app is loaded...I've seen the light... FahMon isn't showing that on this rig but I recall on the 295 fooling with Tools or options and goy it there. Is it normal to start getting larger WU's as F@H sees your completion times going down dramatically? I just saw the 285 pull down a 587 point job and the other -gpu got the same. Biggest I had ever seen was a 450!
Should HFM work om my 100 node Lan? I may take a look at that. Love anything that gives me status info.
trying to overtake Butch though it may take 3 weeks. KaKao doesn't reflect that much optimism but I'll get there. From 12 it is a long haul to 11,,,,
Good shtuff!
Thanks.

Kakao does your PPD average over two weeks (14 days or 112 updates) whereas EOC does it over 7 days (56 updates) and is the "Team" link of my sig.
HFM works for me, and my W/LAN is only 100 Mbps (54 Mbps for the WLAN itself), you'd just need to configure the config file to use the UNC path for all the clients...and obviously ensure that the firewalls are set to allow whatever user account you're using to get to the Folding folder for each client...
TBH, FahMon can also monitor remote clients (within the same W/LAN), just that you'd need to configure each instance of FahMon independantly of each other - even different user accounts on the same physical or virtual computer would need to be done one-by-one... HFM can be set to load a specific config file on load, and that can be anywhere within your W/LAN and will just work more simply...I've seen the light... Fahmon, doesn't need to be installed on each client, if you find the Folding folder on each client, say for at home, just enable that folder for sharing over the network, and then from the main rig, with Fahmon, just navigate to it in the settings, set it, done.
thats how I'm able to manage/watch work done on other PC's on my LAN.
but now I use HFM, due to it able to calculate Bonus points for CPU SMP, where as Fahmon can't.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Net, in the case of the machine I set up for you, you should just be able to share the "parent" folder - that being share out "C:\FAH\" with whatever permissions you need...

Yep. somehow I remembered that folder, I think it was the first thing you did on my desktop.
Still working great, after reboot core came right back up and EVGA Precision is interfacing correctly again.
I was pulling an all nighter but I got HFM downloaded and that's as far as I got, tonight is playtime.

doing fine for now, having issues with sinus's draining and building up in chest (Esophagus area), and feeling like bad heartburn or acid reflux, but trying to deal with that yesterday and today, still like this tomorrow, am going to see the doc.
but got 3 more days before going in for another short visit, and then a day and half of feeling like shit and wishing I was in a coma those days.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Hey, I am there with you. Are your hands messed up like mine were? and wow, do something for the reflux, it can mess up your esophagus.
Later on, I am installing HFM tonight.

no problems yet with skin, finger nails, hair, etc...
the only thing really is I have my oily face and acne from 15 years ago again
really pissing me off too, with a full facial beard/goatee, mustache, etc, doesn't help.
and its the deeper skin acne, where they swell up a little bit, and don't really drain, other than just plain hurt.
as to the Reflux, I already take, or when I can, Omeprazole for it (LOL, Firefox Spell check flags Omeprazole, as a wrong spelling and Suggests "Flameproof" as its replacement LOL, thats freakin hilarious..., yes, taking Omeprazole, can help make you metaphorically flameproof to the Fiery Acid Reflux,
)
anyways, sucks trying to take it, since I'm supposed to try and keep food in me all the time, and all that, and to take it I need to take the meds 1 hour before a meal or 2-3 hours after a meal, by then I've already had something else to eat, or sleeping, so can never fit it in when needed.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

That sounds pretty cr@ppy there Shy... I'd prolly try to take it an hour before a meal (unless it is one hour before and three hours after - making it a four hour gap between meals).. @Net how did you get on with HFM..?!? I just remembered that to get it to keep the config when you start, you need to first save it (as you would need to do for other instances anyway) and then change the app's settings to load that on starting... You can create different config files, then play around splitting up the F@H clients on different configs, but I personally just load all my F@H clients into the one instance.....
