[F@H SPAM MAY 2011] Sinko De Mayo...?

Decided to start a New F@H Spam Thread, the old one went on for 4 months, long enough

    Old Previous Thread Here: http://www.techimo.com/forum/distrib...y-year-23.html

Since today is May 5th, Figured I'd share this little story I got from a Classmate on Facebook about today.

    Hellmann's Mayonnaise - A bit of history.

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England . In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York . This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico . But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York . The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost. The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as -

    Sinko De Mayo.

    WHAT???

You expected something educational from me?

You need a shot of Tequila after that don't you!

I'm sure some goody goody member here will have a sh*t fit over my reply to the following thread

    http://www.techimo.com/forum/general...eive-data.html

But seriously, that has got to be THE DUMBEST question asked on here this year. Hell, in the last 12 months possibly...

Software or Website or something to retrieve data off a lost USB Drive, that they don't actually have access too.

Yep, just a few winks, nod of the head and POOF it magically recovers all lost data....

I understand people out there are not tech savvy, but seriously why is this so hard to think about.

that one's dumb for a 13 year old, I know 8 year old kids with better computer literacy. Shoulda told him it requires a 9th level wizarding degree for data conjuring that's worth a damn.

I'd be really curious to find out what the mother had on the usb, and if it was a usb stick or drive. That'd suck if it was work documents or something.

Well, it was good to see the parents equally as dumb as the kid.

First thing wrong with the situation was the Parents being stupid enough to have the info saved to the drive, and not additional sources, and then be trusting enough to let the kid take it to school with important information saved on it.

That right there was Strike number one.

Number two, was the kid taking it to school, knowing it had important info on it and to MAKE DAMN SURE it does not get lost and take better care of it.... Only to lose it.

Number 3 was making the thread and asking the questions they did.

    YOUR OUT!!!!

Anyways, USB storage devices aren't THAT hard to lose really, unless their really small, like the little nub/stub type ones. I've got at least 4 different Lexar USB sticks, various sizes and shapes and none are THAT easy to lose.

Now if it was a USB Hard drive, then the kid is even dumber for losing one of those and not realize it.

LOL, I just read their reply.

"Dont be talking about me or my parents "

Hey, they brought it up, we're/I was just stating the obvious.

The only way a website would be able to recover lost USB Drive data was if the computer at home had internet access, and any data that was written to the USB Stick, was also simultaneously being uploaded and stored on an Online Back up service as an Archive so it can be reclaimed if the drive is lost (which it was).

OR, if the drive itself, contains some sort of Software on it, that allows for remote access, as long as the drive is plugged in, if its not and its lost, then your sh*t out of luck, period, and it doesn't take a genius or a "walking computer" to figure that out, or use some basic common sense with that regard.

If the computer that used the drive, had some sort of Cache or Buffered data of the data that was transfered or read from the drive, their might be some way of retrieving that... but its not very likely, if the Schools PC's are locked down tight.

but to retrieve FROM the lost drive, thats a big NO.

Got the paperwork confirming everything earlier: the car to take me to LHR; the (Virgin) flight; the (rental) car for the other end; the return flight; and the car to bring/take me back home again... (I've left the details on the kitchen table a home, but ...!!

Just realised that my BlackBerry had decided that I should be typing in "Svenska" and every time I wanted to put an "a" it was changing it to "att" for some reason... Anyway, fixed..

Well, thought I would price up a possible upgrade...

(decided to see cost from newegg for 'Sh|ts and giggles').

    I7 2600K
    $314.99

    Gigabyte UD7
    $314.99

    Ripjaw X 2x 4GB
    $109.99

    T= $739.97 = £452.028

    I7 2600K
    £240.01

    Gigabyte UD7
    £389.99

    Ripjaw X 2x 4GB
    £114.98

    T= £744.98 = $1,219

That's a huge saving! Even if I get a plane and pick it up... It would still be cheaper!!!

Just picked up a good deal on a Spare 520W Antec PSU, $39.99/Free 3 Day UPS Shipping at newegg.

    Newegg.com - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W Continuous Power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Don't really need it, but having a spare PSU on hand for back needs is always nice.

As it is I have the 500W OCZ Modular in Mini ITX case, 750W PC Power & Cooling in the Socket 939 system, and the 750W Corsair in my main rig.

Plus its an excuse to build another system down the road LOL.

My Brothers PC has the 400W version of the above PSU in it, so if he needs something more down the road I can send him this one too.

And, plus I have more GPU's than I have available PCIe Slots to put them in, so if I can find a good Cheap dual or triple PCIE X16 slot board, then I can use the PCP&C 750W in that, and the 520W in the 939 System (dual PCIE x16).

never even heard of that hotel ... If you are in Milpitas, i HIGHLY recommend you ask your local coworkers to take you to the Great Mall and have lunch at Dave and Busters. i dont know of any like it, think arcade for adults with drinks to match

Once your settled, send me a PM with your schedule if you think you can squeeze in a dinner.

    2nd the Dave & Busters!!!!

Though we don't have one around here, my brother has one down near him in Wichita Kansas.

Goes there all the time. And I plan on making it my 2nd Home, at least for a night, if and when I go down to visit him and my Sis in law and her kid sometime in the next year or so.

Its like a Circus Circus or Chucky Cheese for Adults, like Nemo Mentioned, Arcade games (video game and carnival like games), win prizes (including things like Nintendo Wii's and other high dollar prizes), Drinking, decent food, Drinking, playing video games, Drinking....

Oh, and did I say Drinking?

If We had one up here, I can guarantee I would be there a couple times a week to unwind from work and whatever else, may be not so much for the drinking but the combination of Video games, gaming and Drinking and having fun really.
