Yea, for now. Didn't want to bother with the 212+ Evo install until I ensured the system was stable..

Now it won't boot into BIOS lol... Was going too smooth at first, I knew it couldn't be that easy!

Gotta get used to this new BIOS... it's more of a gui w/ mouse support... pulled the battery for now

    What I meant was..

The fan controller is on adapter.. aka.. the board spools up the fan as the CPU heats up. Just setting the fan controller to non-adaptive.. aka full speed. should keep the CPU cooler, or should make it cooler.

Yea, thought about that as well. Disabled it and the fan was spinning 5k rpm... yet still heating up the same.

Exactly, it's interesting, but this board has tons of options so it's actually kind of nice being able to use the mouse.

    ___

I did notice however that the cpu seems to have been set to a Vcore of 1.325 which isn't abnormally high, but I'm going to drop it and see if that helps, atleast to the point where I can do the windows install without it catching on fire

Reseated the heatsink/fan again with AS5 as always with the same, if not worse results

Never had this much trouble on an install in my life...

Anyways, guess for the sake of stability I will just go ahead and use the hyper 212+ evo.

Don't mean to keep spamming our own spam thread here, but I'm glad to report that I am officially writing this on my new system.

No isses whatsoever now, and cpu idle temps are 35*c which isn't bad for a 125w 8-core

I'm going to assume, that and the vcore defaults at 1.35 which is kinda high for stock. Set it to 1.275 and it helped out a bit. Under 8 cores prime 95 100% heat test load it just about hit 60*c... but thats apparently on the edge, but normal for these cpu's.

Not going to OC for a while until I actually need to as my 550ti is now the bottle neck ..

Installing skyrim as we speak. Thanks for all the help too in my build thread man, much appreciated!

60fps in skyrim almost 100% of the time, in only the most heavily populated areas have I seen less than 45fps... but no less than 35 at most even during fights in that area, and that's with higher settings than I was running before. HUGE improvement

Plus, realized my DDR3 1866 downclocked to 1333 initially so now it's manually set to 1866 again... should be good for a frame or two at most

good to know, once I get Skyrim I should be able to run it nearly fully maxed at 1080p then.

You will have zero problem, your cpu should atleast be about 5-10fps higher on average in skyrim where it's cpu dependant (cities, mostly).

Btw, thinking about an SLI setup... Never ran one in the past but seeing some benches of 550's in SLI being above a 560ti and closer to a 570 in performance I'm convinced.

Is there some specific bridge I need for it? I noticed there is a million and one different ones listed...

Your Mobo should of come with an SLI bridge, to connect the 2 cards.

at least it shows it in the images for it on newegg.

If not you can buy one as well, Arctic Cooling sells a flexible ribbon SLI bridge, its actually long enough to span from the 1st to the 3rd PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard if needed, but can be tucked down between 2 cards for closer slots like your board has (PCIe x16 1 & 2).

wish I could do that at work, but all the PC's are locked out, and have no passwords to get in... let alone security camera's aimed at the offices where the PC's are, so can't even risk it LOL.

Best I could do, is maybe use the public restroom and sit on the sh*tter and access from my slow a$$ phone... unless I was on break, then I'd be sitting in the breakroom doing the same.

Thanks again! Probably going to pick one up in the coming weeks to have this rig fully done and setup... Should atleast be a decent performer than

Seems my idiocy has led me to finally realize my Extreme 3 version of the 970 chipset can't support SLI, though the extreme 4 can! (though I don't see why not, almost tempted to try)

Anyways, might be able to snag a Evga 1.5gb GTX480 on the cheap instead, like 240 bucks. Is that a good deal? Do they really run that hot where it would be a bad mix with my already warm CPU?

Ahh, I see, when I did a search of your mobo from your thread, I saw the link in google and went to newegg, and sure enough it is an EXTREME4 model...

Yeah, your "3" version is Crossfire only.

$240 for a 480 is a bit high IMO, but still with in the range, upper end of what one should sell for, if used. If new, its not too bad, but I have seen some for closer to $220 or so on occasion.

Yeah they do run hot usually, depending on the games though, most DX9 games I run tend to run it hotter than DX10/11 games, 85-90C many times, sometimes even a few degrees higher.

a 480 will run just as hot, though you could opt to Watercool it if needed. KarmaKiller was using a 480 for a while I think, and I can't remember if Aaron was using one as well?

Wanna buy my 470? Asking $150 for it. (though its stock speed, and runs smidge less than a stock GTX 560 Ti, closer to the GTX 560/Radeon 6870).

could keep the 550 Ti in for PhysX games, and for a folding Cruncher, and the 480/470 for main gaming GPU.

if the 480 is one equipped with the standard blower fan, it should vent 90% of the heat out the back of the case, and not into the case, mainly just have to worry about the back of the card and heat venting from that.
