yeah, kept thinking the DDR500 was 4GB for some reason, but it is 2GB's worth of sticks.

GRRRRRR!!!
F*CKING Skyrim...
Was playing it, and after completing the mission area at mount kilkereath or whatever its called with the Meridia shrine, when you get the one sword Dawn Breaker...
Anyways I went to fast travel to Markarth to finish a quest and as soon as I loaded into the city and suddenly my frame rates dropped to 15fps TOPS, was getting between 5 and 15 fps.
I figured maybe it was saving and lagging...
no.
I then thought maybe some graphics or lighting was the problem...
No, GPU temps were about 45C, and Memory usage was just over 500-600MB.
I exited the game, figured maybe Steam was doing another damn Syncing...
No.
My Antivirus had done an update and had the nagging pop up about it (Avira Free).
so figured maybe that was it.
Loaded the game, went back in, STILL LAGGING.
Exited out, disabled the Hires Pack, went in, STILL LAGGING...
So I know it wasn't graphics related.
Something was killing the frame rates, didn't matter if I was in the city or in a building in the city.
So I just went through a series, of Defragging the Games Cache files from with in STEAM.
Exited Steam, uninstalled the Nvidia Drivers, which I just installed a week or 2 ago when I finally got SLI working. And Installed the latest versions, 306 something, that just came out today/yesterday.
After a nightmare of Windows reboots for the drivers, I find that even though I did the Express Install of the Nvidia Drivers, which was SUPPOSED to retain all my prior settings.
it in fact DID NOT, so I had to reenable SLI and then check Precision, sure enough THAT reverted my main GPU back to its stock 850Mhz Core as well.
the 2nd card stayed at 900 Core, but both dropped to the primaries Memory Clock rate...
So I had to reset the primary for 900, and memory clocks back up to 2106 (same as a SC model), apply settings, and make sure I saved it in a Profile setting in Precision this time.
So now I'm hoping and praying that the damn games lagging will have been fixed, as there was NO reason for it to be lagging like that out of no where, its not the first time I've been in Markarth, and its never lagged before, but suddenly it was tonight.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Markoth can drop ridiculously low for me at times to, but that is low considering our setups (mine more cpu bound than yours) and the lowest I'll really ever see is 25 or so in big cities with tons of ai around

well some combination of steps seemed to work things out, I went back to 60+ (vsync still on, not sure why as I have set it off, but still seems locked at 60fps.
ran fine for a while, cleared the one Dwemer city or whatever out in Markarth, with the robotic defenses and stuff, but after I got caught stealing something that wasn't marked to steal, I paid the guard my bounty, and they spawned me in the city somewhere.... and suddenly the frames dropped again, 20-40fps, and was stuck there.
I saved the game after entering the Halls of the Dead to clear out that area, and then exited the game, defragged the files again...
and called it a night, as its nearly 2AM.
have to work at 4PM today, so watch some DVD's pig out on some food, and then get some sleep LOL.
Maybe put in some time tomorrow night after work, or Sunday night since I'm scheduled to have Mon/Tues off.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

some one want to take a crack at helping in this thread?
Help! <GPU Question>
Don't think he's getting the point on the pics needed to see whats connected and if any trouble spots...
Latest pic you can't zoom in on, has all power cables disconnected, and video card removed...
(my pic, though hosted off Photobucket, if your in Firefox you can right click it, select View Image, and actually zoom into full size image, to see better, his, you can't).
Plus someone else can maybe walk him through on what to check, and maybe even wire management (as it was abundantly clear that in one of his pics his 8 Pin Power cable has more than enough length to route under the mobo and connect).i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I know exactly what you mean with that framerate drop... I get it sometimes (though mine goes to 5-10 FPS). Sometimes jumping to a new area solves it, but it can drop if I go back... I had put over 80 hours into it, and not had a problem... Now dawnguard is released I get lots of laggy areas... Even when I kill the settings...

quoting to jump over the spammers excessive posts here.
anyways, yeah, when I got the lag, it dropped to the fps you were getting, but some combo of Defragging the games cache, reboots, and Driver updates seems to have fixed it.
Then I started to get lag again at some point, MUCH better than before, but this was more reminiscent of traditional GPU lag I see in other games, still over 30fps, but drops from 60 to 40-ish and maybe some microstuttering or delayed reading from the HDD.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Sure, at work now but can take a more detailed look when I get home tonight around 10pm-ish
(leave for work at 8:30am... get home from work 9:30pm... fun fun
) Thankfully it's only 4 days a weeks.
Speaking of Microstuttering, I'm noticing a lot lately in Skyrim, and it's nothing to do with my upgrade, as it seems to stutter less on the 7970ge. However certain areas just don't feel smooth though it shows 60fps.
It appears to be a vsync issue so i'll play with some settings in my ati control panel (I sure do miss nvidias setup though, so much freaking easier)Main PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit

any idea how to disable, ACTUALLY Disable Vsync in this game? I have tried disabling it via Nvidia drivers in past, and in game fps never peaks beyond 60.1 fps.
I've looked around in the games .ini Files as with past ES games, and not sure which ones actually control the games settings, and which are just archived stock ini files?i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

vsync is permanently enabled because the game uses the framerate clock ratio to determine controller sensitivity on the Xbox and PS3. There IS a way to disable it, but I can't remember how. ~_~
-
September 16th, 2012, 02:30 AM #353
Wouldn't that apply to the console versions? If its for the Xbox 360 and PS3?
I know you can use the 360's controller on PC, and the PS3's controller (Wireless anyways) on PC, but since this is a console port and they did enable visual settings tweaks for the PC version which you won't find on the consoles, you'd think they would of enabled some sort of option for Vsync in the game, but one doesn't exist.
might have to dig around and find out how on the PC/Steam versions, would be SO nice to lift the Frame rate cap and hopefully if one enters an area with a drop, that it doesn't start at 60 and drop, maybe 80-90 and drop.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

On the nvidia side this fixed a big issue with my 480 and skyrim... each time I went to play I went to the nividia control panel and forced an application override of the steam folder (as it will not show skyrim by itself unfortunately) and it fixed my micro stuttering for the most part

yeah, I did that on the old 296 drivers and it didn't seem to work. So I started digging around in the ini Files, as I remember with Oblivion, I had to do the same thing in order to enable a Screen Shot Toggle button in the Keybindings for the game.
