660Ti review arrived... an early bird so to speak, but dayummm, it puts quite a whooping on a gtx580 at times
I venture to say vanilla 660's should be around 480/570 performance than

not impressed with the Just Cause 2 benches, hell my 470 was getting nearly 100fps easily with the game maxed out.
Though I like the Metro 2033 bench
Still, not too bad of results, now just need to see the pricing range, and might be worth picking one up?
though I might still save my money and just get a 560 Ti for cheap and run SLI till next year.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

560 SLI sounds like a better idea....
480s are less than £150 here now... So I could get another (though ATM it is not needed)... While watching my electric go up.

yeah, mainly thinking about costs. $300+ for a 660 Ti, I assume, or spend about $150 or maybe less for a 560 Ti?
$300 would be more than half of my average paycheck currently (take home pay after taxes, and other stuff), or HALF of that for a card?
Hell, might even be able to trade something along with cash for a card...
as much as I would like one of the 660's, if they are indeed the last of the 600's before nvidia moves on to the 700's, don't know if I would really want to bother with them, maybe wait until spring to see how 700's are if they are even out then?
Along with Intel's Haswell, and DDR4, if its out by then as well.
Plus gives time to see how AMD's Piledrivers end up being, if they do end up giving AMD a comeback of sorts, for less costs than Intel, it might be worth waiting for...i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

yeah saw that the other day...
Strange GTX 560 Ti Specs, Can Anyone Shed some Light on it?

Decided against it, its either a typo, or a further detuned GTX 560 Ti 448 core.
In either case, I can't SLI it with my current 560 Ti.
Wasn't sure if the 1st reply in my thread was referencing the 448 models, or that specific card.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I think it is a 448 Core model, might just be a typo. But it could be an OEM card, with an even lower core count.
even if the core count is really 352 Cores, its performance should be somewhere between the 560 Ti and 560, closer to the Ti model with that 320-bit Bus.
a couple of them in SLI together for $260 wouldn't be half bad.
But for myself, its a no go, unless it was a true 560 Ti.
If I had the money right now I'd consider it, but if it is a 448 Core further reduced, or a 448 core with a Typo, its still a 570 based card, and as per KK's suggestions a week or two ago, with some of the problems with the 570's, I'd still probably pass on it. I've never really been a fan of the 448 Core 560 Ti's anyways.
But yeah, the other day, saw the price, and 560 Ti, and was like "HELL FU**'n YEAH... Wait, WTF is This?"
LOL
so I figured I'd post about it over at OCN and even if it wasn't a typo and it was some OEM part or something, figured someone would know over there for sure.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I could probably get one card, but right now our dog is in at the vet, and we are waiting to hear back on tests, see whats wrong, if she needs surgery, or how bad it is if its worse, so refraining from spending too much of this paycheck in case I need to help the parents pay for some expenses for her.

Valid point, better to wait until you know the money is available.
Think i'm going to try and OC the 480 some more tonight.
I've already got the memory bandwidth up to a stock 580 @ 192gb/s and my core clock is 100mhz faster than a stock 480.
However, looking at benchmarks I'm still slightly behind a 580. Hoping to bump the core up to about 825mhz and get pretty much idental FPS in games as a stock 580.
After all, I don't want to be too far left behind when the 660ti's become the new "mid range"
But hey, I sound like a broken record but I couldn't be happier for dropping 200 flat on the thing shipped.
Can't wait for the FX-8350 either. Regardless, double the l3 cache and a 900mhz boost over 8 cores compared to my FX-8120 should be quite the boost, add on top of that the claimed 15% single threaded performance gain and it should be quite a nice cpu that should hopefully slightly outshine i5's in games. Don't think it will touch a i7 ivy of course, but being close to it for around 100 bucks less is quite a good deal to me.
For BF3 online, the 8 cores do indeed keep higher framerates over the current i5's and match sometimes beat the i7's, so this will be a nice upgrade path for me assuming AMD doesn't drop the ball. I find myself playing BF3 online quite often, much like I used to play CS:S...
oh crap CS:GO is out soon too,..... dayummm too many games!
I noticed you were mentioning switching to AMD also Shy, any particular reason than going to sandy/ivy?
For me it's already because I'm on the platform, bought 16gb worth of 1866mhz mem and dont want to do a mobo swapLast edited by SoloCamo; August 7th, 2012 at 09:33 AM.

I was THINKING of maybe switching AMD if they are decent enough this time around.
Maybe...
If they can get decent Multi Threaded Support in Windows 7, hopefully via MS updates or service packs, then I might consider an 8 Core, or at least an 8 core along side my current i7.
3D Graphics animation software could really benefit from the TRUE 8 cores, rather than 4 cores and HT on the i7.
But even for gaming, if it can compete close to a modern top end i5 or i7, or even my current i7 940, I'd consider possibly switching, especially if the power consumption/wattage can stay down.
But I'd have to have an SLI capable Mobo, so probably one of the X or FX series chipsets.
However, with Intel, its leaning more that way, PCIe 3.0, and DDR4 next year.
I'm hoping with ArmA 3 coming out end of the year, beginning of next year, with DX10/11 support that it will support more than Dual Cores, maybe 4, 6 or 8 cores...
definitely could benefit from it if it did.
Anyways, if next year, Haswell doesn't have THAT much of an Improvement, I might consider some "lower" end AMD's.
Though I would love to see some AFFORDABLE Hex Cores from Intel for once, at the least, though I doubt that will be the case, unless they decide to make some for Socket 2011.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

I really don't forsee ArmA 3 being capable of not using a quad core or higher. In the next year or so we will see more games take advantage of hex cores, and to be frank, its about time.
Got the GTX480 to 825mhz core (mind you, with .25 bump in volts) / 1650mhz shader, 1000mhz memory.
This, by math alone is literally the exact speed as a gtx580 now, considering the 580 has more cores, yet is clocked lower.
In fact, a few reviews of gigabyte soc 480 came close to the 580 and was almost identical.
I'm 5mhz (yup, I so went there
) faster on the core and 50mhz faster on memory than the gigabyte overclocked model.
This should be good for quite a while

Mmmm, mmm, mmm, mmmmmmmmm...
Finally got around to trying out Maxthon Browser on the PC, been using it on my phone for a couple months now, and I think I am loving this browser VERY much, with all its useful features built in... seems to be a bit snappier than FF and Chrome on my end. Even runs a tad smoother on my moms Netbook than the other 3 browsers (IE, FF and Chrome).
Might have to see about using it primarily on my main rig for a while, see how it works out.
May end up reverting FF And Chrome to secondary duties if this one plays right.i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green

Going to try Maxthon later tonight, never heard of it until you posted it.
Got my gtx480 to 850 core without a hiccup today w/ a slight bump in volts.
Felt like a risk taker and bumped it up to 875mhz core with another ever so slight bump in volts (almost 200mhz OC on stock cooler
) and got it to run stable through multiple runs of metro 2033 benchmarks

I've known of Maxthon for a couple years, I just never tried it until I installed it as my default on my phone, figured I'd give it a try on the PC, and not to bad right now.
Little annoying that when I click one of the bookmarks in the bar up top, that it opens a new tab, even if I'm done on a page and want to go to another site, it opens a new tab anyways, but I'm sure there is a setting somewhere to change that.

Thanks, yea that price was appealing for it, I would have jumped on it. Apparently it's a hit or miss with them fitting.
Good news is, even overclocked at 875 core (1750 shader) w/ 1100mV after hours of stable (and much improved over stock) BF3 on ultra it only hit 72* even though gpu usage was 100% almost the whole time.
Going from 700mhz to 875mhz gave me a good 10-15fps atleast in most places even on ultra. I'm quite impressed now

Don't jinx me man. 875 is the furthest I'm going to push it at this point, though I'm confident with how 'easy' this one has been oc'ing that I can hit 900mhz but anything above 875 or higher and I know I'll need a bit more juice to it.
If it wasn't for the AC in my room I'd probably only be getting it a hair over 800mhz
But yea, at above 875 as it is, even if I squeezed it to 900 the performance jump wouldnt be that noticeable to justify the extra heat and watts.
At my overclock as it is I'm already slightly faster than a 580 so I'm happyMain PC: AMD FX-8350 / 16gb DDR3 1600 / AMD 7970GE 1200mhz Core & 1600mhz Mem / Win7 Pro 64bit
