starting up F@H again
Hi guys,
been away for a long time, but am back again
I installed F@H on my workstation, hope she'll cranck out some nice numbers.
System is a 16 core bulldozer rig, so more like 8 cores with hardware hyperthreading. LOL
what's are teams stats page again??
cheers

I downloaded the latest client, but how can I make sure it doesn't use 100% cpu all the time, cause that might heat up things a bit too much

and do we have a seti@home team??2 x Opteron 4280 2.8Ghz, Asus KCMA-D8, 32GB DDR3 1600, Asus 6950 DCII 1GB 2 x M4 64GB SATA600, Caviar Black 640GB, Seagate 1TB, 27"syncmaster

We had a seti team going for awhile. I'm not sure that anyone is still active

F@H is team 111.
I usually run it on my PS3, but I rarely even switch that on, lately.
PS3 version is in the Life at Home software thingymabob.

Doesn't appear to have a percentage CPU usage setting any more, or at least the client I'm using doesn't....but you can configure it to limit the number of cores it uses - which is kinda of the same end result..
I've attached a quick screenie of how to get to that point, hope it makes sense....

Hi Nude_Lewd_Man,
thanks for the info, I seem to have the same client, so I'll check it out tonight. then I should be able to set it to max 8 cores or something.
Yesterday I ram the client, all 16 cores @ 100%, within notime the cores ran up to 70C degrees, at which point they started throttling.
I know, I need better cooling
I'll get to work on that

I'll bet that system runs Minesweeper and Solitaire pretty sweetly.

hehehe, you'd be suprised

last night I noticed serious lagging when playing Solitaire LOL
It plays every game I throw at it just fine, altho nowadays FULL HD gaming isn't so much of a challenge anymore for these kinda graphic cards.

Hrmm, this is enough for me to start running F@H again as well..
Running an 8-core AMD myself (fx-8120).. I've got 300mhz on your, but you've got double the cores, so I think you win
This said, the latest client I download does indeed let you (on a sliding scale) adjust the percentage of cpu usage you want to have used. It also gives the options to lock to certain cores, etc.
What was TechIMO's team number? Wanted to join up againLast edited by SoloCamo; October 9th, 2012 at 04:15 AM.

hehehe, you don't necessarily have 300Mhz on me

My opterons have turbo core up to 3.5Ghz and when F@H is running, they always run 3100Mhz and higher, so....
but indeed, cores over speed (to a degree ofcourse), just need to find better cooling2 x Opteron 4280 2.8Ghz, Asus KCMA-D8, 32GB DDR3 1600, Asus 6950 DCII 1GB 2 x M4 64GB SATA600, Caviar Black 640GB, Seagate 1TB, 27"syncmaster

You pretty much just run in the water towards the other side, the resistance of the water makes it a real challenge.
