    Sudden UD - related problems!

I am having a UD related problem that was causing re-starts, and scans.

I tried to run scan disk and it wouldn't finish, it kept going back and forth between "checking file allocation tables" and "checking folders" but didn't want to finish. By trial and error, I disabled UD and now my scan disk completer the first time, with no errors reported and start-up completed fine.

How do I get a new "issue" I guess mine is corrupt or more people would be complaning..This is the first problem I have ever had that pointed directly to UD...

What is your cpu temp while running UD as it puts a full load on and maybe overheating.

It is not causing unscheduled restarts or craches, it was causing a manual restart to cycle into scan-disk saying that "Windows was not properly shut down, etc". That scan would complet itself but a manual "scan disk" in
(start/accessories/tools) would not complete, just loop.

That part is fixed now in that I got a good scan, but I don't want to re-enable UD until this problem is resolved.

cowboybooter ya should check UD out as it's for a good cause. Take a look here to get a starting point and if you have any ?'s don't be afraid to ask in the DC treads.

    TY MDS, checked out link.
There have been a shedload of 'UD' Scams in the UK, but this is obviously kosher since so many folk in here are doing it.

I have the parts to put together a coupla crunchers, It's a subject close to home ( work ) so once I check space issues with the Boss (wife) I think I am in on this one.

CBB, you don't need to put UD only on "extra" cows; put it on your and your wife's main boxes as well. It runs in the background and doesn't cause apps to run slow.

The only problem might be if your hardware is a bit flaky, as it pushes it to the limit. I think that is chuckiechan's problem, as has been pointed out.

Or if your hardware is too slow - I only got a 486 to run it when I added at least 32MB RAM

UD and other DC's are great for checking to see your hardware is rock solid.

    Cheers
    Mick

Chuckie, there's a "snooze" mode on the UD client. Right click the blue football in the tray and it'll snooze for 5 minutes so you can run stuff like that. When you have the program open, you can hit the "properties" button (third from the left in the bottom right-hand corner) and adjust how long you wannt UD to snooze for when you use the snooze option. Hit apply and you're done.

If it still gives you fits, you can always drag the entire UD folder to the trash and wonload a new engine, client and work unit. Just make sure to click the box that says you're already a UD Member and put in your UD username and password.

Tom T... Thanks, I'll dump the works and re-download the client. Can I still keep my (measil) score? Or is that what name and password does?

    Thanks Mucho...

PS: I am so far down the list my score doesn't really matter anymore!!

The points you already sent are on UD's servers, and nothing failing a failure of the UD servers will take them away from you.

    Cheers
    Mick

PS EVERYONE's score matters - we wouldn't be 42nd spot overall in points if those with a single PC didn't contribute their bit.

I tracked the problem to the UDdialup.exe proggy...there was no uninstall tag, so I deleted it. I don't know how or what corrupted it, but I suspect I may have dumped something when playing with a registry editor....

I forgot where I got it, can someone send me a link...?

    Thanks in Advance....

Shoot, I tried the UDDialup thingie way back, but I have no clue where I got it.

Shoot a PM to Richard Cranium. He uses it on his herd. Meybe he can either email you a copy or point you to where it is.

I did a search with Google: "uddialup.exe" and I found it.

    http://www.geocities.com/chronosbear/uddialup.html

I am so glad I have gotton away from the rest of the search engines that are dishonest and jerk my poor dial-up connection all over the net.

I like it so much I even read their adds and click on their links just to help them earn a buck!!

    Thanks for all the help...
