[FaD] Benchmarking

There has been discussion on benchmarking for THINK on the FAD forums. THINK (the person, not the client ) has posted a little crude test program
Quote:
We are looking at associating any job benchmark with the Methodology project but we also need to add a very simple way of running it. We are also thinking about uploading a little more information such as the operating system, CPU type and an estimated speed.
Here is a little test program which provides a crude speed estimate (we have used something similar for many years). It performs some matrix algebra - don't worry about the result (if we throw it away the optimising compiler has fun and removes all the code). You need to place it in the same folder as salflibc.dll if you want to run it.
A few of the forum members have posted results in this thread. Thought some of our team may be interested enough to run their own benchmarks. Post 'em here if you do.

Cheers
Mick
edit: sorry, forgot the test prog link

I tested it on my dualie and got...

Result= 6.334766E+06
CPU Time= 1.23438
Elapse Time= 1.23334

I would assume that this is for each of the processors? Not really sure what the numbers mean.

I don't know that ANYONE knows, Kc2iLq not even THINK! More questions than answers in this.

I think you'd need to compare with another duallie for any meaning. Mondo might be able to help...

Cheers
Mick

I think that there should be some sort of standard. Isn't that the whole idea of a benchmark... to compare your setup to the norm ???

Anyway, I would assume that it is for each processor b/c at the FaD forum, there was a guy with a celery 1.2 who had about the same numbers.

This is not the benchmark test that THINK wants to develop, just something to play with while he does develop one.

Cheers
Mick
