It's been a while since I was part of a DC project. The last ones I weas on were UD , AIDS, and ECCP. I was one of the first people on the AIDS projecvt, but didn't like it bcause there was no Linux client and the client was quite buggy anyway. UD ate too many resources for me (IE it would eat too many in the middle of a game, whereas AIDS and ECCP could handle it pretty well.
Well, I did all that on an 800mhz Duron. Nowm, I have a 1700+ Atholon XP, and I wanna get crackin again.
Because of the cross-platform issue, I've decided to run BOTH FAD and D2OL. FAD because I hate cancer, and I'm not fond of the UD client,a nd so I can use Linux without feeling guilty. D2OL for much of the same reasons.
I know a 1700+ wont' make much of a diffrence, but I have some old machines upstairs I can use as cows, if I ever get around to it (no hard drives). I can use the CD drives with a CD linux and these projects, however. Hmmm....
BTW, does D2OL and/or FAD support clustering? Like, as in, Beowulf clusters? |

Welcome to the team (you get official welcome on the stats)
Also FaD does run on both Winders and Linucks. (and can share a common set of jobs over a network quite easily)
and every CPU helps, I have some older ones that are crunching here (333, and 2 450's, I shut down the 225's because I had to canabalize them for faster machines)
As for clustered computing, no for FaD, however with a Queue server they can all work on one set of jobs)
Any ??'s let us know, I'm sure a spokesperson for D2OL can answer the clustered computing question with respect to that program |

Just joined both teams as 'clRedwolf' (my Mechwarrior nick). For some reason, FAD would not start running until I went into the job Queue and told it o receive a job. Does this mean there's a setting messed up somewhere that will prevent FAD form automatically downloading jobs? Also, should I enable the Bioterrorism jobs in FAD (disabled by default)?
-last minute change- ops, think just crashed....
D2OL is working fine. Currently trying to smite smallpox as it's first task. |

Think crashed??? Hmmm, was there an error message?
Bio-terrorism I am not running, my main goal is Cancer, I want it gone
In the setup, if you put it to "selecting all jobs" it will automatically send and receive as needed, but for the first execution if you shut it down and restart it, it will get some jobs, (or wait up to 1/2 hour) |

no, I was running too many apps, and one fell. Yep, even with 512mb RAM
I'll leave Bioterror off then. Hey, why else would I use D2OL? |

FAD 4 Linux is up, although I'm not too sure if it's working well...-last muniute change- yep, it's working.
Question...sor some reason, when I run ./think, it wont work unless I run it from the console. Is there a way to get around this, or better yet, to get everything to start up when I boot up linux?
I'm having trouble with D2OL, but I'll put that in another post. |
