[FaD] Question: How Much?

I have the parts needed to assemble a complete computer. The
Cpu is a Celeron 2.1 Mobo rated at 400 FBS ram; up to 2gig. Is this enough horse power to be useful? I think the slang for the
proposed unit is "a cow". I also have several other questions.

More than enough to help find the cures, Uncle Bob!

I've got [FAD] running on 2 computers w/ less than 200MHz and 64MB of RAM.

Ask away and one of us will be happy to help ya' get on the team!

My INTERNET is through cable. I can split and run a second 'puter.
When I'm on my main box, say surfing the net, would that interfere with ,"FaD" ? Would sending E-Mails interfere?

It wouldn't interfere at all. I can be downloading game patches, checking email, and browsing web sites at the same time and FaD works properly.

certainly a worthy addition, although... you may consider dropping the multiplier on it, and ramping the FSB to 133, it helps a lot with the celerons, they're just too crippled at 100x4 FSB.

you can expect a CPU rating of about 60-70 out of it, whereas a 2000+ can pull off 180-210. interesting...

I have no experience with over clocking. The purposed mobo and
cpu with up to 1.5 gig pc2100 is a known STABLE 'puter, all of which is waiting in my "fun stuff" closet. Is a 1.9 gig HDD enough?
Is Win 98SE appropriate?

No problem a few MB's is enough space for FaD to run.

The FaD (and many other DC clients) client runs using Idle system time and not when you uise you PC for something normal day-to-day stuff or heavier processing FaD automatically slows itself down.

On donor computers that are waiting for larger HDD's, I run 850MB HDD's with W98SE or W2K Pro. Along with AV software, Remote Administrator, etc. and [FAD]!

When installing W2K Pro, and then upgrading to SP1, you have to be a little creative, but still no problem!

1.9GB is plenty. I've got FaD running on stripped down Win95 installs with 300MB hard drives. My next experiment will be no hard drive (running completely over the network).

Any amount of horsepower helps, bro. You may want to cut down on fans and such for this box, or shove it in a closet if it's only going to be a FaD cow.
