nVIDIA GTX 260 vs ATI 5770

i M going to buy a new PC in few days.

But i m not able to decide as on which GRAPHIC CARD to buy.

i Have 2 choices :
1} ATI RADEON HD 5770
2} nVIDIA GTX 260.

Pls. dont give me any other choice as i have decided to buy any one of these cards.

i Dont want a huge gaming rig.
i want it for all round purposes & mainly for 3D ANIMATION & VIDEO ENCODING.
& might play few games as well such as BATMAN ARKHAM ASYLUM, GTA IV, ASSASSINS CREED.

Both cards have their advantages & disadvantages.
ATI 5770 has DX-11 SUPPORT, EYEFINITY, etc BUT IS SLOWER THEN GTX 260 ON GAMES.

WHEREAS

nVIDIA GTX 260 lacks DX-11 SUPPORT but is faster then ATI 5770.

nVIDIA HAS CUDA & PHSYx which is a BOON TO GAMING & ANIMATION.
i Dont think ATI has such technologies with them.

Is my hard drive going bad? Please help...

The hard drive on my laptop consistently fails (10+ times tested; specs below) the Hutil (Samsung hard drive test) once it gets to the random read test and the self diagnostic bios test and won't boot windows, just stays on the loading screen with the bar moving back and forth or a black screen.

BUT after sitting and warming up for about 5 minutes, it will pass (100%) both of these tests consistently (again 10+ times tested), boot up with no problem and I can do anything all day without any issues.

Is this drive going bad? Should I look for other problems?

The laptop is a HP dv2550se; 160GB Samsung SATA HD, 2GB ram, Windows Vista, Core 2 Duo @ 1.5GHz, 14.1" screen, large 12 cell battery.

The hard drive is as silent as it was new over 2 years ago, I haven't occurred an issues while accessing or moving files or freezing. I have tried to test this by filling it up with large high def movies and they all seem to work fine (video card just can't quite keep up). If I turn it off and let it cool for a couple of hours it will go back to failing at bootup.

One dumb nube and a cisco 3550

Hi everyone, I have got a Cisco 3550 and I have no idea of its potential and how it works diff from a normal switch.

I have tried master reseting by holding in the mode button and giving it power, but now im stuck in connectiing to it or simply using it.

I have a small workgroup of 8 pc's and 2 network printers running off 2 switches which go to a 4 port modem NETGEAR DG632. I want to put all my connections in the one switch and just one cat 5e going into my modem, currently I have one switch with 5 pc's running on it and a printer, this then passes down to my other switch (could be a netgear router I cant rem ) with another 3pcs and a printer then finally a modem connection. I need to minimise all this to one modem and looks like this 24 port 3550 EMI should work, but I need help.

Laptop - HDTV Connection Using HDMI Cable

Hi all,

For a year / two now I've been connecting my laptop to my tv through a single hdmi cable and it's worked perfectly. However yesterday my HDMI cable connector broke so I had to get a new one.

This new cable displays the screen (it's on extended desktop from laptop main screen) with the background image, but everything is red. The whole screen is flickering relatively quickly and there are horizontal black lines on the left that change in size with the resolution, spanning from top to bottom.

I did not change anything since my last cable so I presumed that the cable was faulty, however after trying a friends it resulted in the same outcome.

Also strangely my last cable setup required no audio connection to the laptop, speakers, headphones etc or the tv screen would flicker, which wasnt a real problem. However to display this red screen it requires some audio input in the audio jack, else I get a blank black screen.

I am running a dual core laptop, 4GB(3GB), GeForce G8600M GS, Windows 7 Professional 32bit. The TV is made by Easy Touch.

I have tried most common solutions, tried installing Realtek audio manager drivers to see if it wasn't something to do with the audio, which does not go through to the tv now. I have installed the latest nVidia drivers also. I think the audio options in 'Sound' aren't correct as I have Speakers and Digital Audio (S/PDIF) and nothing saying HDMI.

I'd really appreciate any comments / thoughts as because it was working but now I'm having these problems.

Actually, different video formats make it difficult to share video with others, even your own camcorder and iPod. Is there an easy way to convert videos effectively. Yes, there is.
In this article, I will show you guys how to convert videos on windows and mac.
Part 1. How to Convert and Edit Videos on Windows
For Windows users, you need a Video Converter to do that for you.
Here I use Aiseesoft Total Video Converter
Step 1: Download and install Aiseesoft Total Video Converter
After you download it to your computer, double click it and it is really easy to install.
You just need to click �next� and it will complete it in seconds. It will automatically run after installation.

Step 2: Load Video
Click �Add File� to find the video that you want to convert and click �open�. It will be loaded automatically.
Step 3: Select the target to decode
In the �Profile� drop download list you can find your target according the usage of your output video, such as if you want to put the video on your iPod touch, you can select the �iPod� in the first list and �iPod touch 2 MPEG-4 640*480(*.mp4)� in the second list.
Step 4: Set Advanced Parameters
After you select the right output profile, you can click �setting� button to set your advanced parameters. You can adjust video and audio settings separately. In video section, you can change �video encoder�, �resolution�, �frame rate�, �video bitrate�In audio section, you can change �audio encoder�, �sample rate�, �channel�, �audio bitrate�If you want to save this profile and settings and use it next time you can click �save as� button to give a name to it. And the next time you want to use it you can find it in the profile list named �user defined�.
Step 5: Choose a Destination
To browse and find a output folder for your output files or just the default one.
Finally, Click �Convert� button to begin your conversion, here in the converting
interface you can choose �shut down the computer when conversion complete� or �open output folder when conversion complete� or you just do not choose neither one.
Tips: How to Edit the Output Video
This video converter is also a video editor, you can use it to edit your output video as follows:

1. Effect:
You are allowed to adjust the �Brightness�, �Contrast�, �Saturation� and you can choose the �deinterlacing� to make the video more enjoyable.
2. Trim:
In �Trim� section you can pick up any part of the video to convert.
There are two ways to select the part of the video you want. One is set the start and end time in the box. The other one is to drag the start and end button in the processing bar.
3. Crop:
This function allows you to choose a certain play area to convert. That means you can choose a part of the screen you like to convert. This time you need a Video Converter for Mac

Click �Add File� button to load the video you want to converter

Step 2: Choose profile and adjust settings

wireless connectivity

I have a new ACER Asipre one laptoop. My desktop is a Dell Inspiron. We will be on a cruise for about 3 wks. I cannot get the Acer to take the wireless connection from the Dell/wall modem.

Schematically can you tell me what cables (ethernet) etc to plug into what piece of equipment?

I have a LINKSYS WIRELES-G 2.4 GHZ/54Mbps Broadband router. I don't have a clue of what to plug into what. I do need to get this laptop operational . I have business needs to keep on top of and Ido not have an IT person to help me

should i upgrade whole pc or just video card?

hey guys, quick question...

I have had an evga 680i mobo with an E6600 oc'd to 3.5ghz and a 8800gtx.... I have had this system for about 3.5 years, it has been an awesome system, but games are coming out now (such as battle field bad company 2) where i have to turn to settings to a mixture of mostly medium and one low setting @ 1680x1050 res... I'm a hardcore gamer and play games at the highest settings and do not like anything less... I would have upgraded by now, cept I am waiting for the new nvidia GTX 480 to come out within a month and my question is...

should I buy a new x55 mobo with i7 920 and all that crap that comes with it, or just upgrade only the video card to gtx 480 when it comes out?

My cpu is a CHAMP 3.5ghz at stock voltage and I dont know if its worth upgrading mobo, cpu, ram, psu, and all new coolers and stuff or just to upgrade the video card...

GPU upgrade from 8600 GT

I'm looking to upgrade from a 8600GT. Now I'm not a huge PC gamer, but I've been thinking about playing more PC games lately. The 8600GT isn't the greatest card, but it can play most newer games somewhat decently, but I'm a videophile and I want to get the best possible graphic quality while staying in the range of my budget. Right now I'm gonna say my budget is $100-$150 bucks. There are so many options out there for graphics cards these days that I would just like some assistance on which card would give me the best performance for my budget.

Here are my computer specs:

MOBO: ASUS M4A78 PLUS
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz
RAM: 6GB DDR2 (1GB x 2 and 2GB x 2)
PSU: 550W (12V wattage is 420W) (12V1 20A) (12V2 18A)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate X64

New PC Heavy Gaming Rig

Hey everyone, haven't posted here in a long time :p but i need some helpB=0 !

-- I am looking at building a new gaming rig for my friend for his birthday (1000$ budget) and I was wondering if I could have some help from you guys making a parts list. Here is what is needed and not needed:

NEEDED:

-As stated above this will be a heavy gaming rig so preferably a powerful GPU (games played include COD, WoW, Farcry, HoN // all on high settings have a real nice monitor and likes everything to be crisp)
-Maybe a small solid state drive for OS and some games (small because of budget)
-I like AMD builds (mainly because its just a little cheaper)
-I really like to keep everything cool (good air flow case, but cool looking. He has an old alien ware tower now so i dont want to downgrade him to something boring looking)
-Maybe a Caviar HDD nothing too fancy

NOTNEEDED :

Hello, a couple of email addresses I had on my list bounced several times because, the bouncing program said, "address not found" or somthing. So I decided to get rid of them by deleting them. This always worked with similar cases, but it seems these 2 are stubborn and the bouncing program keeps bouncing them back to me.

Kindly let me know if there's a way for me to get rid of these 2 forever without having to install another program?

disappearing icons different problem

Ive been having a problem were some of my icon are disappearing. i used to have most of my desktop filled with icons (it was messy >.<) and now only about 1/3 are still there and just now another 2 icon just disappeared since the last time i was on. any suggestions on whats making them go away? and its also seems to be randomly disappearing. not in lines or anything
