| Codemasters' GRID (PC) Review Quote:
So they dusted off the DiRT's groundbreaking engine, renamed it Ego and used it as the framework for an entirely new project: Grid, an unabashedly racing-focused game that takes the skeleton of Codemasters' old TOCA/Pro Race Driver series, slips it into a high-tech skin and imbues it with a modern soul.

I purchased GRID through steam not long after it was available. From the user reviews I've been reading, it seems like a love it or hate it type of game, I on the other hand don't love or hate it, but I do think it's pretty cool. My only gripe is the way the cars "feel" specifically when it comes to steering the car. It's very twitchy and doesn't feel connected to the road. I'm more a fan of simulation type games like Gran Turismo and company and GRID is in a unique position of offering up game play that isn't quite simulation, but also isn't completely arcade like. Main thing is you'll need a game pad preferably with analog controls or a steering wheel. Playing this game on a keyboard isn't a good idea and will take a lot away from in. In fact, most of the people who hate the game were using a keyboard and the ones that liked it were using a pad or wheel.
Don't trust the system requirements one bit. It states that minimum is a P4 3GHz which will be next to impossible to run this game on. I was using well over 60% CPU usage on a 3.1GHz Q6600. That means it was using an entire 2 cores and then some. I just don't see how a single core at a lower clock speed that performs way worse clock for clock would be able to run this game. I tried in on an X2 4400+ @ 2.45GHz and my fps was in the 20's, low 20s in fact.

A little update on my mini review above. The twitchy controls I mentioned above are a thing of the past with the patch that was reciently released. The game plays MUCH better now.
Also, the FULL version of the game plays pretty well on my X2 4400+ rig, the demo plays like crap though. I was averaging somewhere in the low 30fps range on that machine with a x1950 Pro. |

The game sure looks nice!
But I'm still having fun with Burnout Paradise on the PS3 and there's a huge update coming this week that will add a lot to the game so I guess... I will not be buying Grid anytime soon
But who knows?!
Now that I have a new video card on the way, I might change my mind
